    I have been considering starting to make my own lipgloss, lipstick, eyeshadows, bronzer, contour, and blushes. This vid has helped tremendously to push me in the direction of doing my lipsticks and the fact that they now have the 3 lipstick mold makes it sooooo much easier for me to say yes. Thank you for this vid. It was quite helpful.

    Hi Marie , Just wanted to give ya a fun mixing tip . Try using your Badger Mini Mixer to mix in your pigments once the base has melted . Also , I used a Glade candle warmer to warm my TKB lipstick base . I put all my ingredients into a tiny wee ceramic mortar and pestle that has a pour spout on the side , then put it on the candle warmer . Once things were melted, I used the Badger Mini Mixer to blend my iron oxide and Red 40 . The mixer really helped disperse the pigments. When you’re done mixing and melting, the pour spout helps to fill the mold 😊My lipstick turned out smooth with nice color pay off . I used a bit of TKB Film Fix to help prevent transfer . Seems to have worked. Now I just need to figure out how to mattify it a bit . I used a ton of Kaolin without much luck . More experimenting . Thanks again for your videos 🤗

    Hi Marie! I’m so looking forward to making lipstick in a mould! I am looking to buy some prep cups because I only have 1 100ml beaker and don’t want to have to do lipstick one at a time with cleaning in between, what is the capacity of your prep cups? I have found Duralex prep cups that are 75mm, and hold 70ml, but I think yours are a different size, what would you recommend? Thank you for spending so much time formulating a mouldable lipstick base!

Thanks and keep going! 😀😀😀 Cheers

    Hi Marie! So glad to see you working with solid lipstick. I have one of the metal molds and I love it. It makes beautiful lipstick using the TKB base. I have a question about the longevity of the lipstick. I made some nice shades and gave some to my daughters'. They loved them but in a couple of months the lipstick went all funky. The texture changed and lost its smooth appearance and creamy texture. Since I also happened to my personal tube I wondered what I could do avoid that happening again? Most lipsticks aren't used up in a month so really need to be able to extend shelf life. Maybe something I'm missing in the handling of the product ?

  • @inkymagpieo1271

    @inkymagpieo1271

    I haven't had any experience with the TKB base, just commercially made lipsticks, so please take my comment with a large dose of salt. :) 1a) did the smell of the homemade stuff change or just the texture? 1b) if you cut off a bit of the top of the homemade stuff, was there a "ring" of noticeable texture change near the surface and it still looked smooth and nice on the inside? or was the texture change just near the point of application and looks fine farther down the product where it wasn't exposed to air/moisture/touch? 2) were the lipsticks exposed to extreme or or fairly rapid temperature changes? If yes to 1a, my first guess would be the base went rancid or you have a mold issue. My first thought would be to add a broad spectrum preservative, I'm not sure what would be best for this. I know that an anhydrous shouldn't need one, but since it's a product being exposed to saliva/skin flakes/ etc it might be a consideration. If yes to 1b it could also be a rancid/ contamination issue but I'd worry about it melting and re-solidifying first. If yes to 2 the melting and solidifying can change the texture of a commercial lipstick, so it would most likely effect a home made one as well. maybe a pinch of a harder wax or thickener would help? It might make the lipstick more "draggy" on the mouth though. Hope that helps!

    Julie O thx Julie. The lipsticks didn’t smell and it appeared to be on the surface. I know that I would want to have a longer and successful shelf life before I gave or eventually sold them to others. I’m not sure about temp flux’s but I know it wasn’t an extreme flux. I think I will try again and monitor the results. I may also call TKB. They are a good company and maybe they can shed additional light.

    It isn't as long wearing as the long wear base in the book, but it's also not as grabby and is easier to re-apply in the stick format. I've definitely got developing my own base on my to-do list :) Hopefully I can get the best of both worlds!

    Hi, I've a lipstick that I really love, but the lid broke so I've kept it sealed in a baggie. I don't really mind this, but it's kind of embarrassing to pull it out when I'm at an event and need to retouch after dinner before photos. I have an older lipstick I don't use, but it's got this great heavy duty metal tube. It's not actually that old that I'm worried about the packaging. I was wondering if I can transfer the bullet over without having to melt it down completely and risk changing the texture or losing a lot product. Maybe if I put it in the freezer?

    Hey check on KZread on how to transfer lipstick tubes. Basically you put both lipsticks in the freezer overnight and then you can pull them out to change tubes.

    This video was very informative of the ingredients and the process of making the lipstick. Great video. But what are the tools one needs to make any lipstick and where can we get them? By tools I mean not just the mold (which you mentioned) but also things like the thing you had one ingredient sitting on, the measuring spoons etc. Are certain types better than others for any reason? Nothing is too small a detail. Please reply or make video just on the tools to make makeup. Thank you and warm regards.

Hope it all works out . I’ve already experimented by melting down lipsticks I already own and mixing colors . I used a silicone mold I bought from Amazon and it turned out beautiful . I've found the lake dyes and carmine typically do the best staining work, though neither will leave a colour that remains for days. Sadly, beetroot powder doesn't work at all-I tried it years ago and was very disappointed.

    Dear Marie! Have you ever had an issue when product on your face (like serum or cream) creates small lumps and kinda rolls off? I guess it's an issue of combining hialuronic acid and olivem 1000 and/or hialuronic acid and aristoflex in one product. But it really bothers me! Don't know what to do(((. The product itself in the jar has a very good consistency without any lupms or anything like that. Thank you for your videos and advices!

    I believe that's called "pilling"-I've had it happen a few times, though not frequently enough to notice any similarities between the formulas that could be an issue. My reading says it often happens with gelling agents and film formers if used in high concentrations.
