I like this video! Especially due to how well it makes a seemingly and potentially difficult task easy enough for most anyone to understand. My compliments, very well done!!! The fact that there's no other technical BS (like building codes) to complicate things and still 100% code complient due to this application. Awesome!!! Nicely Done!!!

Excellent! Have a summertime RV with wood stairs. My girlfriend just fractured here leg, and needs a railing for a few stairs. The original stairs were home made by the previous owner, and a mix of various woods, so 2x4’s seemed the perfect option. Your Video showed me exactly what I need to do, including notching out the step. Well done, and I will do it with your tips in mind this weekend. Thank you

Use your level with the length you need marked on your level , put the mark on a piece of masking tape if ya don't want a mark on your level. When measuring your top rail it will be very accurate rather than using your tape measure which is nearly always not plumb when measuring freehand.

I know this video was made back in 2016, but today's stair codes do not allow you to build it this way anymore. Be sure to consult a current copy of your locations code if that is a concern for you.

You have to have a graspable handrail. Perhaps a separate handrail was added after. The vertical 2x4 used at the bottom instead of a 4x4 post is not blocked in the framing properly and does not use the correct type of fasteners. It will work fine the way he did it. Just would not pass inspection in most places. @@marcogeraldis7117

@@sethd1125 Im actual doing a handrail kinda similar to this now and because the deck isn't high enough of the ground no codes were really looked at. More so just a perimeter was needed.

True. 30 inches or less in most places does not require a guardrail or railing.@@marcogeraldis7117

2x4 on its side like that isn't grabbable, per all local codes, and won't pass inspection
