Looks tome like 3mm steel was used. I can agree with the wish to increse materialthickness to 5mm... That will however not form as easily. Most commersial bumpers sold are 3mm. If reinforced descently, there is little to contradict using 3mm.

Oh ok, that seems like it is similar to a new truck bumper. I was thinking it needed to be 5mm in the center and maybe 3mm for the outer portion. Maybe it needs to be thicker for a winch mount. Nice job, looks fun. I need to make one for my truck soon. Good use of sketchup too.
@ChasWG
5 жыл бұрын
Most commercial available bumpers are made from 3/16" thick steal and any winch mount areas are made from 1/4" plate. 1/8" is fine for a looks only bumper, but I would not ever put any shackle lugs on that bumper. 3mm or 1/8" sheet is not enough for real hardcore off-roading or recover work. The frame tie-ins on this bumper were all the same, thin, 1/8" material. As a reference, both front and rear frame tie-ins are made from 1/4" plate attached to the actual frame rails. And the shackle lugs are made from 1/2" welded to the 1/4' plate as well as the rest of the surrounding 3/16" body. That as a true, solid off-road bumper. Both my front a nd rear bumpers were "weld-your-own" kits that I had to make the bends and then weld it all together.
