How to Make Ceramic Candles from Start to Finish
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Here I will show you my whole process of making ceramic candles. I've never made handmade candles before, but making candles at home was surprisingly easy! I first threw clay cups on the potter's wheel, fired & glazed them, and then took them home to make my own DIY candles. Candle making is such a therapeutic hobby, and I think these ceramic candle vessels turned out so nice. I hope you enjoy!

I would suggest wick stickers or hot glue to keep wick in proper location for a proper burn.
I feel so lucky for this video

Hi Mia, could you make these curvy candle holders with hand building as well? I do make my own candles, so this would be a great addition to the creative process. Thx
Love the video! So cool to see the full process? Did you wax the bottoms?

No, I just wipe the glaze off. Glad you enjoyed!
For what it's with. Maybe you could make a liquid funnel when you're pouring in the wax. It will better protect you and the bench. :)
Hi! Thank you so much for the video. Is this also possible by hand and without a kiln (but an oven, bbq or an garden fireplace? Im just starting with ceramics and don't have the sources to go all the way yet! Thank you 😊
love it !! i want to do this when i become more advanced and established. i have a couple questions.. is that a home made white speckled glaze ? and what is your opinion on wiping the bottom as you do vs. waxing the bottom ?
@PotterytothePeople
Жыл бұрын
Hi Emily, I didn't make the glaze, but I purchased it from my local ceramic supplier (Carl Jäger). I always wipe the bottom. I find it easier, cheaper, and I don't like to work with wax. But either way works :)
beautiful!! for how much you sell those?
What temperature do you pour the wax?
Beautiful, how long do you have to let the glaze dry before you can undertake the glaze firing? Thank you x

I don't let it dry at all. It can go straight in :) I figure the heat from the kiln will dry it out.
What can we use if we don’t have a kilt ?
Thank you so much for posting this video. Great Idea and really nice. I live in Canada and can't seem to get anyone to quote me on buying the clay, I think years ago it was $20. But firing and glaze no luck. I know you said we have to purchase the clay from the studio and for good reason. Could you just tell me your firing and glazing costs for one cup? Many Thanks again.

We charge 5€ per piece for both firings & glazing service. Our clay is 6€ for 2kg. Hope that helps!
👏👏👏
This was so calming to watch ☺ Have recently got into working with air dry clay, do you know if it's possible to use air dry on a potters wheel?

Hi! There is another pottery channel that has tried three different types of air dry clay on the wheel, Im sure its easy to find😊

No need to put a sealant before adding the wax?
nice wonderful 👌🌹
Flabbergasted is my only word🔥👏🏽I’m going to learn this for my business. Is it beneficial financially in terms of price for materials to make finished product vs just buying a ceramic vessel already made?

And also you can put higher price tag as Handcrafted 😉

Excellent video, but treat yourself to a metal pot with a spout for pouring! Makes much less wax mess!

Hey, so before the leather hard stage, the piece doesn't need to be dried inside polythene to avoid direct air?

Nope, unless youre trying to save it for another day.
What is your average selling price for a candle?
Beautiful, are the ceramics compostable? new to this sorry. lol

nope haha
Did you pre-heat the vessels before pouring the wax? Did it detach from the vessels when it cooled down? I tried pouring plant wax into ceramic vessels several times, but it always detaches itself from the vessels (no matter how warm the vessels).

Hi Sarah, did you solve this question? Because I have the same problem. All the candles I've been making are ruined. The wax just doesn't stick to the ceramic vessels. Do you already know how to fix it?
Wow, those are great! You didn't get any cracks? About 20 years ago I made candles, one time I didn't heat the jars and one exploded...oh man it was a drag but since I hadn't made anymore. This is inspiring.

@@PotterytothePeople I found out someone said I was supposed to warm them, to avoid thermal shock, it may have been the wrong glass, not tempered..idk whatever the reason I may try this some time...thanks for the video it's really appreciated

What do these look like burning? I'm not familiar with soy wax.
If the clay gets fired in the kiln, is that enough protection for the heat of the candle? Or is it a special kind of glaze?
@PotterytothePeople
Жыл бұрын
The kiln is way hotter than a candle :) Any glaze should be fine!
I want to know that place u put them ,is it a kiln, and what type of clay you used to get such smoth finished and shiney pieces in the end ,is it the clay or something you apply on before firing ? Anyways I enjoyed your video,Tx
