5 years later and I still come back to this recipe

This was my favorite cookie growing up. My grandma got alzheimers and I am crying writing this, but she doesn't really bake or cook anymore but she made my cookies all the time. I truly appreciate you making this video because I am going to make this for her next week.

Please do bake some for your grandma am sure she will appreciate inside her soul, she might recognize the taste and the smell of the cookies, if she used to bake..

These cookies sounded so good, I immediately got up, went to the kitchen and cooked some. I had all four ingredients! I don't have an electric mixer, so mixed them in a bowl with a silicone scraper. Added the flour slowly so it would incorporate thoroughly. I did a little thing extra. When I took them out of the oven I pinched up a little sugar and spinkled on top of them. It stuck to the hot cookies and made a kind of crystalized sprinkle-topping. I'm having a mug of coffee and these cookies as soon as the seven minutes count down. I can't wait!

Jo Ann Fe Magbanua... .real butter is key for a great flavor in all deserts. U can use margarine but you'll get a different taste & it wont be called a Butter cookie.

That’s a Chi-town favorite...lunchroom butter cookies!! I make them all the time, I even add pecan chips then sprinkle with powdered sugar after baking!!! 😋😋😋 It’s 1am and I feel like making some right now!

Brings back childhood school memories born & raised in Chicago these were .10 a cookie

These are so good. I've made them twice and I hate to make sugar cookies. My husband told me not to lose this recipe. Thanks for sharing this.

Yes Lawd. remember these back when school lunches were served hot....my favorite was Meat Loaf and Mashed Potato with Green Beans. Milk was chocolate back then....but to top it all off The Delicious Lunchroom Cookie or a slice of Sheet Cake. Couldn't afford the price of school lunch so I asked the manager if I could clean tables for school lunch...they cooked back in the day. Thanks Ladies!

Yep ,Our lunch ladies cooked fresh bread, pizza,wiener wraps,and fresh cooked in the school kitchen. Smelling the food cook all morning.

I made the butter cookies today and they are out of this world!! I'm making and giving all of her cookies as Christmas gifts. The cookies are very easy to make. The only hard part is packing them in gift boxes to give them away. As always. Thank you Ms. Chris 🌹 🙏❤

Thank you for this recipe Miss Chris. I am a product of the Chicago Public Schools and when I was a student, these cookies were THE BOMB -- with ice cold chocolate milk! You know, Chicago Walgreens stores sells them now (at least, on the south side), so I pick them up every now and then. But now I can make them myself.

OMG! This makes me think back to my early childhood when these were served with school lunches.

My momma loved these cookies & we did too! She made them all the time...without the pretty wave! I’ll add that to mine from now on! And I loved the white polish! So lovely & stylish! Beautiful daughter! Love watching & learning from you!! ✝️

Just tried this butter cookie and love it! Reminds me of my late mother's butter cookies. I did beat the butter a little longer, was cold overnight here, and cookies came out a little softer but still melt in your mouth. Thank your daughter for sharing her recipe! I just made these cookies this morning for my two grandsons. My daughter is out of town for the next few days on a business trip, so I thought I would make a treat for them. I have been looking for the "perfect" CPS butter cookie recipe. I've tried several, but these are the best. I made 1/2 of the recipe using my medium cookie scoop. I made 10 cookies. The only change I made was to add a pinch of kosher salt. I baked them for 14 minutes. Thank you for your cooking videos.

I love cake and cookies. There is a recipe for cookies back in the day when I was a child just like this recipe. I keep thinking that recipe used almond instead of vanilla I guess. They were the best tasting cookies just like tea cake but they were darker. Thanks always for your recipes Chris. This one took us back into the good old days as a child.

THESE LOOK FANTASTIC!

I can't bake. Usually stuff I try turns out bad. Other than pancakes. I baked this today, after a disaster following another video a few days ago. Turned out the best I've done. 12.5 minutes at 350 worked for me. Cookies may not look like they're done but they are after cooling a bit.. Trust me. 12.5 minutes. Follow her directions. I used a hand mixer. Parchment paper. Kept it simple like the video. I was shocked I was able to do this and cookies turned out looking just like those in video. Remember, I can't bake. But did today. This woman's a genius. Don't screw around with other videos.

I made them and yes they're great! Yummy! I did have to bake mine longer but only until they were golden on the bottom. I also made colored glaze and streamed over them. Big hit. Thanks!

This cookie brings back so many memories. I went to a catholic grade school in Cleveland Ohio and the ladies in the kitchen would make theses cookies. I never found a recipe that equaled the taste of those cookies. I’m going to try this one. I’m betting this recipe will make the cookie I’ve been wanting and missing for many years.
