Ingredients
3 cups beans 525g
4 cups water
1 tsp salt
Pepper mix
1 large onion 190g
½ large bell pepper
Scotch bonnet
To cook the beans:
1/3 cup oil
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 beef seasoning cube
Water (about ½ cup)
Serve with fried plantains

Faster way to pick beans tip 1: pour the beans in a bowl, pour enough water that reaches the tip of the bowl,,,2 things will happen at this point.1. The light dirts of chaff will rise while 2. The stones will sink lower, remove the risen dirts at the top then sink your hand into the bottom of the bowl to find the stones and pick them out. Repeat this step 3 times to entirely remove both stones and light dirt,,this should take you less than 5 minutes to finish up. Fastest method i have been using.

Adding salt in the beginning makes the beans take forever to get done. I usually add salt/Maggi once the beans is soft

Another tip for heart burn and gas: soak the beans in water and a good amount of baking soda before cooking. Discard the water and wash beans well. The beans will cook way faster + no gas or heart burn. In Mexican culture we also cook the beans with an herb called epazote which helps ❤

I made this. Haven't tasted it much bt from having bits and pieces over the cooking period, its solid. The only big difference is i used chicken stock to boil it with a bit of water rather than water. Everything else was the same. Turned out quite well. Thanks for the recipe!

Hi Kiki. Love the recipe. We eat bean stew with white rice. My husbands family with dumplings. We are from the Caribbean. Some people also eat it with yellow cornmeal called functie. It’s like a dance cake but not sweet. Perhaps you know it. Love and blessings🇳🇱🌷❤️😘

Not really. It’s a bit more soupy. We use salted pigtail, Selery, onions, garlic etc. It’s done differently on the different Islands. I was born in Curaçao and at home we had it with white rice. My father was from Surinam. The called it BB and rice (Bron Beans with rice).

Ah kiki,that garri on the beans was the coco for me😂not until i went to boarding school and a senior poured it away that it was unhealthy😢. I nearly beat that yeye girl that year😅
