How To Make Assassin's Creed Altaïr Throwing Knives - Limited tools + 2x72" belt grinder version

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I'm a big fan of the Assassin's Creed Franchise. I've played all the games through the years and I've been wanting this throwing knives since I played the first ASC game back in 2007.
So this week, I decided to make two throwing knives, the one Altaïr use in the first game. I used C130 High Carbon Steel. I also decided to make two versions of this knife. One made with limited tools, using only an angle grinder to shape the blade, and another version using a 2x72" belt grinder.
I heated both blades in my coal forge and quenched in motor oil, but you can also use a toarch to do it. Tempering the blade can be done in a cooking oven, just like I did.
As you will see in the video, no matter what tools you use, the result can be exactly the same, and that was also the purpose of this video : showing that you can make stuff even if you don't own a lot of tools.
Oh, and I also need to practice a lot more. I'm not really good at throwing knives, but not using a proper practice target is also not a good thing. Don't throw knives on your doors... :)

That was really nice! And a cool addition to your collection. Nice too see what kind of result is possible with just an angle grinder.

Olivier Chambon Thanks a lot Olivier. I find the angle grinder method easier and quicker. Some angles are hard to grind with the 2x72. But the surface finish is way better with the fine grid belts. I guess it all depends on the shape of the knife. For regular shapes, 2x72 is great. For original stuff, the angle grinder would be my tool of choice 😊

Hey man! That was an amazing work! I love AC franchise, and those are some great knives. You see, I'm starting in the world of the blacksmith, but I would like to do armory once I finish my current course of blacksmithing. Any good advice to be able to go ahead and be able to make my own swords and knives? I appreciate your time, help and I hope your message :) By the way, do not stop doing works as perfect as this. You rock!

Jordi Ducat Garcia Thank you very much Jordi. The best advice I received when I started is "know the steel you're using and practice as much as you can". If you know how to heattreat your steel, you've done half of the work. Enjoy what you're doing and always be safe in the shop. Keep me posted about your work !! 😊👍

Thank you very much for the advice! I will study and practice with all the steel i could, to do different things, and all fo them the best than i can. For me is an honor to show you the little things that i'm doing, for the moment more sculptoric pieces, but for something i have to begin with. i have done a head of a Wolf and a Boar, and i was doing a Dragon too. My proposal is to do my final project that will be 10-15 historical weapons, like the Bastard sword, the Katana... All that kind of stuff. Wish me luck, and if you want i can show you all i have done. Have a good day man!!
