How to Make an Electronic Motion Sensor Mouse Trap (PIR motion sensor and a pull-type solenoid)

Ғылым және технология

How to make an electronic mouse trap with a PIR motion sensor, an N channel logic level MOSFET and a pull-type solenoid? This includes how to wire a PIR motion sensor, a MOSFET, run tests, and integrate the circuit into the mouse trap. This is an awesome hands-on learning project for students and those starting in electronics.

    Nice project, thanks for making this video, good inspiration. I’m thinking of converting snap traps to use TTP233 touch sensors and solenoids to trigger the kill bars. Snap traps work pretty well anyway, but it will be a nice little project to see if I can achieve 100% strike rate.

    Cool circuit, i've been looking for for something like this for a project .. I'm going to rig the solenoid just above the kettle, so when my parents have company over they don't have to get up to turn it on, they can use a remote control sitting at the kitchen table ..

    Was thinking of making a light beam detector, where they physically break a beam of IR light, and that would trigger the transistor/ relay setup. Your video is great though and the motion detector type may be another option for me. With the light beam (or invisible IR beam and detector) we would not have to worry about getting the motion detector shielded to pick up any stray movement. The mouse would have to be right in the beam across the opening. No heat is needed either from the mouse, just the ability to break the trigger beam across the opening. Thanks!!!

    Nice! I plan to just put a pir with lights and if my dark corner of my room lights up means there is a mouse and it is time to setup an old fashioned trap... But... Not going to just release it somewhere... They "LEARN" and "REMEMBER"

    Hey can you please explain simple steps how to make a Pir sensor turn on dc motor that's a linear actuator than taps a limit switch?

  • @marklimbrick
    @marklimbrick7 ай бұрын

    Well done. In theory PIR needs a heat source moving across. So a really cautious mouse might get past. But you showed the PIR still works at close range. The drive to the MOSFET could be via a capacitor with resistor. It means only a short pulse. Those PIR modules consume tiny current in standby. Rats don't like tunnels, a balanced tilt and slide into container could use the solenoid idea.

    @marklimbrick Actually, rats and rodents in general like to live, play, sleep and eat in tunnels, so his design is perfectly fine AND could be much more tunnel-like for better efficacy in future iterations.

    Thanks so much for your kind words and offer. This is probably the only motion sensor mousetrap out there, that I'm aware of. I made it also to teach my son and hopefully other young viewers about electronics and how you can build things with them. I am limiting it to hobby activities only and it is not available for purchase. So sorry and thanks again for your interest.

    7.00 Sorry man, you've got soooo many different colored wires there, and so many aligator clips, that I can't make heads or tails of what lead is going where. It's a decent explanation, but between lack of focus, hands in front of the camera, and a tangle of different wires, it's a bit of a fail for a novice like me. Will persevere.
