How To Make An Ames Room Illusion - At home science - ExpeRimental #23
Ғылым және технология
Experiment with your perception of distance and size by making the amazing Ames room illusion in this fun experiment for children.
Download the template from here: www.rigb.org/families/experime...
We know that a toy car is much smaller than a real one, but when you hold a car up to your eye and compare it to a car in the distance, they can look the same size.
We intuitively understand this, but thinking about why this happens is the start of a fun experiment to investigate how our brains make sense of the three dimensional world around us. In this video, Dwain and Sahara learn a simple trick to make their drawings look three-dimensional, and then build an Ames room: a classic illusion that plays a trick on your mind with strange proportions.
Download the templates to build your own model here. Do you think the illusion would work on a big scale too? We once tried it! Check it out here: • Tales from the Prep Ro...

Brilliant! :)
Loved it! Keep it coming you guys
Love it! I was just teaching one of my students about perspective.
Great! Thank you Ri. A black and white outline stencil would be useful though. Why? because felt-pens are cheaper than printer ink ☺

Nice, but (call me a dinosaur) I have qualms about "download the templates". Copying blindly has little educational value. Would it be hard to explain how to construct the thing?

Experience of a subject is a good first step to eradicate ignorance of ignorance. This video alone is a useful foundation for drawing, art appreciation, scientific investigation, architecture, landscape gardening and many more things that people can list. I like to imagine that some child will be able to combine the distant memory of seeing this Ames room with something else to solve some future challenge that improves all of humanity.
