My guitar teacher always told me to never write a solo that you couldn't sing back to someone. The "creating melodies" tip you give feels like the most important tip for creating a memorable solo. It's the reason why I will go to my GRAVe insisting that the final solo from Octavarium is the greatest guitar solo ever.

Awesome Nick. Thanks

Very well done Nik
There's a guy on the FB RG Ibanez group that could REALLY benefit from this lesson, GREAT vid! and LOVE that EB 7 STRING, a work of art!! Thanks for sharing and the lesson! \m/!
Thank you! This Video really motivated me to learn soloing. Thanks alot
Exactly what I was looking for. Thanx.
all jokes aside bro, this was actually very helpful and it made me think of things I didnt even think about when it came to playing solos! but yeah you should make sweeping tutorials
Great presentation!
You are awesome man!
Some great tips - awesome
Good tips. In my preference the melodic, feeling out notes with phrasing cannot be overstated. Thats not even so much about skill, just about touch and thinking. The shred-part is then for the wow-factor, and to increase that wow-factor the odd notes, tapping, etc boosts then.
1:20 Nik's Russian alter ego left him for a sec
I love the fact that whenever he starts talking after a cut, he speaks in this thick Russian accent but gradually looses it over time till he speaks normal English at the end and then the cycle starts over after the next cut xD
Kudos for giving a shout-out to Andy James. That fellow is on a whole other level when it comes to this subject.
My solo start sounding musical thanks!!!
Superb video, thanks for posting
Thanks Niknocternal!
I love that Nik is describing "basic" things as "good to use, but not cool enough and can be much better" instead of "IF YOU USE IT YOU SUCK AND YOU SHOULD BETTER QUIT GUITAR"
Please make a sweeping tutorial! Love the way you teach. Super entertaining but still informative.

Harmonic camera? Is that a new scale? Lol
The way your voice jumps between personalities is hilarious man lol just found you recently really enjoying the variance of your content. Do you spend much if any time mixing or mastering your own music? Have you thought about making videos on your processes in that department? You have a really good way of describing guitar theory that I don't see in a lot of other teacher types. I've been playing for 25+ years and you made a few simple concepts "click" for me that I should have already know! Cheers! :D
Thank you for another amazing video

good shit nik noc!
All killer points! One other thing that would’ve been a great point is key modulation between two different keys in a solo if the rhythm is harmonically ambiguous! Killer video all around though 👍🏼
This guy is an amazing teacher!
Please make a sweep picking tutorial!! Love the channel!!
You should make a video on how and when to use certain scales such as harmonic minor and melodic minor. Also when to use the different modes.
The Phrasing and Rhythm reminds me of something Rob Chapman said about some advice he got for playing solos. Essentially, you imagine you’re playing a wind instrument and every time you need to take a breath, you stop playing, breath, then continue. It’s meant more for blues or slow solos played with feel but it can definitely be applied to metal
I love you, man. This shit is hilarious and informative. Hell yeah! 😂🤘
