With the t-rex's arms, there's a couple of theories. The thing to remember however it despite the fact they're small relative to the animal, they're still extremely large and very muscular. So the most common theories is that they're 1. used to aid in mating for some extra grip 2. they're used to grapple onto prey items to immobilise them while the teeth do the killing

The Tyrannosaurus' arms were speculated to be used to assist in mating, its supported by the fact specimens of the same lineage have very similar arm structures despite being 350 million years older, meaning if they really had no use, they would have been evolved off of the T rex by the time of the Cretaceous period.

If you're interested in taking another look at someone else's take on a Zombie T-rex, in the Dungeons and Dragon's book "Tomb of Annihilation" there was a monster called "zombie t-rex." According to a recent study, scientists believe the reason that the iconic T. rex had such short arms was to protect them during feeding frenzies on carcasses. The latest theory is that the predator's arms shrank to their tiny size to prevent accidental or intentional amputation when a pack of T. I am an archaeology student! The T-Rex small arms are mainly vestigial, meaning they have no purpose but are still present in the body(like the human appendix). Another hypothesis that they are there to hold down large prey when eating. Another is for males to hold onto females during mating.

I absolutely adore the sculpt! I think I'd have preferred the paint job to be a lot more muted. When things die, their blood gets much darker and less muted because there's no more oxygen exchange going on. So, the flesh becomes pale pink/white and the blood gets super dark. It's freaking awesome though!

Trex arms are leftovers from their evolution, but they probably played the purpose of holding onto their partner while mating. Also fun fact: its speculated that they could curl a tonne, so those arms arent super useless

    T. rex had arms for the same reason we have “tails”. T.rex’s ancestors would have used their arms and it’s likely that young tyrannosaurs would have gotten more use out of them than fully grown ones.

So the reason for T. Rex still having arms is actually still being debated by Paleontologists. Some believe it is a vestigial that was left over from previous species and was basically useless to them. Others believe it may have been a weapon in combat when prey got too close. And still others believe it may aid in balance or have aided in their prehistoric no pants dance sessions like how some snakes still have small claws to get their mates rocks off and want to have fun. Or they could have served all/some of these functions. Oh and awesome model by the way!

As requested, palaeontologist here, to give the answers about the T.rex arms. The answer to what the purpose of their arms was is... we have no idea. There are theories: - one of the older theories says they were similar to the clasper fins found on sharks, and were used to hold onto the females during mating, the only problems with that theory being that we would expect to see female T.rex with smaller or no arms (as we see female sharks with no claspers), yet there's basically no difference within the specimens we do have, and a large part of the theory about the shark's claspers is that water resistance and lack of traction mean it needs them, whereas T.rex is generally accepted to have mated on land (not that it's impossible they did so in the water, as some ornithischians would, it's just unlikely due to the chances of the female drowning); - another theory from 2017 imagined them to be for gripping prey in position to get in some devastating attacks while it couldn't run away, however, if the T.rex was holding something with its arms, chances are that thing would be out of reach of the jaws, so although it's not impossible since we don't know how well a T.rex would be able to reach the prey, it is unlikely (as well as the fact that holding something you're attacking directly under your weakest point and all but out of your field of view isn't a great plan); - the third theory I know of is that they would help the T.rex get up from resting position (belly on the ground) by essentially doing a tiny push-up, as they were remarkably muscular for their size in relation to the T.rex, however, this theory isn't exactly the most logical, since the arms will help with 2-3 feet at which point the T.rex still has another 13-17 feet to go using just its legs, which were extremely powerful and likely would do that job just fine without the arms. The only other, and from what I've seen most accepted, theory is that they were vestigial limbs, essentially just something they had from evolving from animals that did need forelimbs which ended up being kept as they were for so long, because they were neither useful nor in the way. Some argue that the arms lasted for so long that they can't just be vestigial, but just because something doesn't necessarily help you, doesn't mean it will evolve away from lack of use - just as scientists predict we may lose our appendix or little finger or toe due to disuse, this doesn't mean we will definitely lose them, as they're not really an issue even if they aren't particularly useful. Personally, I think the T.rex has tiny arms because they're not always that tiny. It was only within the past few decades that the idea that T.rex had feathers became more widely accepted, and although they're not likely to have been fully covered in adulthood, this doesn't mean they weren't as juveniles. Many other theropod species around the time of T.rex were capable of gliding and possibly short flight, with the majority theorised to climb trees for safety then glide from tree to tree, and this could've been the same for T.rex juveniles; as with the largest modern lizard, the Komodo dragon, which as juveniles stay hidden from predators in the trees until they're big enough not to worry about predators. So, I would say there's good chance that T.rex had a use for their arms when they were young, to help them climb trees and maybe hold prey in place if needed (as their jaws weren't fully formed), but they would eventually grow large enough, and their jaws would grow strong enough, that they no longer had use for their arms and they would stop using them altogether, resulting in what appear to be uselessly tiny arms as adults. The real issue with deciding on a theory is that humans are very self-focused, and because we use our arms and hands for so much, we attribute the importance of our arms to other species, even when there's no reason to. As with birds, which evolved from the left over theropods, the arms became wings, the feet became more dextrous, and their jaws became beaks; for birds, they use their arms to travel, their feet to both stand and carry things, and their mouth/beak is used to both eat and pick things up and carry them. And, just because humans don't walk on our hands or pick everything up with our feet and mouths, doesn't mean we disagree about how birds do things, because we can see them in action. So, I guess, until we either bring them back to life or travel through time, there will never be a consensus on why T.rex had such tiny little arms (relative to its body size). Hope that helps 😊
