How to Make a Wooden Speargun - (DIY Speargun Part 1)

Спорт

Welcome to part 1 of 6 on How to build a wooden speargun from home. This Homemade speargun has been made from very limited tools and a very basic knowledge on how to build one. Ive been spearfishing here in the UK for many years now and have always wanted my own homemade wooden speargun… Well… that time has come.
The Trigger mechanisms, Trigger guards, line loops and all other parts required for this build will soon be available to buy. The idea being anyone will then be able to design and build their own gun personalised speargun. If people are interested in this idea please let me know in the comments section below.
Part 2 of this (how to make a wooden speargun) will be coming out next week. Don't miss it, turn on the notification bell to know when it's out!!

For future reference: Instead of tapping on the depth gauge to make individual deep marks, you can drag it along the work piece to engrave a longer straight line. It's not a big tip, but will save a few minutes. Good build! Cheers!

Great tutorial!! i enjoyed it. A couple of questions. How do you determine the widht and thickness? Because if you do it too narrow or too thin, the pressure of the bands will somehow break / deform the speargun. On the other hand, if you do it wider and thicker than needed it'll be difficult to manage once underwater. I'll start working on a 95 cms, 2" wide and 2.5" thick, but i'm guessing on the width and thickness. Is there any formula or way to determine? reckon has to do with the kind of wood and the rubbers. Thanks!

Hello! I"m completely honest, I made the whole thing up as I went. But thats the beauty of it as there isn't another speargun in the world like the one you make yourself, so its quite special. I ensured that I used a very strong piece of wood that would bend or warp under pressure. (Iroko is the wood i used). Let me know how you got on, again i'm sorry for the slow reply.

great vid mate, just wondering what type of wood are you using for this gun?, this is only a idea as im not sure if it would be a bad thing if its going to be in the water, but i used to make quite alot of fireplace mantels out of solid oak and sometimes had to match the colour /grain in with the furniture in the room but i would use a blow torch and slightly burn the surface of the wood and when you oil / varnish it after, it brought all the grains of the wood out and looked really good, not sure if thats something you would like, just a idea :p, keep it up buddy

Its a good point, I dont actually state which type of wood it is until the very end of the videos. Its Iroko hardwood and it has an Epoxy coating to keep the water out. Again, its all a learning curve for me as its the first time ive done it. If i ever make something like this again, ill be sure to give it a go. Fingers crossed it holds up well in the summer. Keen to try it now.
