How to Make a Wood Pipe On a Lathe

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is a tutorial video on how to make a pipe on the lathe. I've made many wooden pipes. Some with the lathe, some with no lathe. This is a how to make a pipe video. This specific pipe is made with materials that are safe for use. The whole pipe is made of black walnut other than the curly maple mouthpiece. The pipe stem fits into the bowl via taper fit. The wooden pipe stem is made of several walnut blocks glued up with 3/8" airway. This is one of many of my pipe videos. If you have any questions or suggestions on future projects please comment down below! Here's a link to my first pipe that I ever made!

Reminds me of wood shop back in the old days. Whenever the shop teacher knew he was going to miss he'd tell us not to make clubs or pipes. So what would we all do? Make pipes and clubs. We'd lie and tell the substitute they were table legs. ; )

I've had a passion for woodworking for over 40 years but I've only made a few pipes. Your pipe style is different than any that I have made and I really like it. You gave me an idea for a couple pipes and it involves some brass. Thanks and keep on making sawdust!

Not bad. See if you can find an out turning 4 jaw chuck for your lathe. Itll help you with getting the turning with less hand tooling. Cheers

Dumb question on a very old thread, is it safe to glue wood together and then smoke out of it?

it depends on the type of glue and its heat resistance. also whether the flame is touching/ boiling the glue

You have a good, solid technique. I only suggest getting a drill press for future creations. It helps with drilling holes at an angle, without having to manually pinch the part in place. Well done otherwise, keep it up.

From what I seen of your bit, I think its a round over bit. Check out the router bit section at your local hardware store. You may want to check out what is called a 'box core' bit. It will giive you a great rounded bottom to the bowl. I have a 3/8 and a 1/2, make nice bowls.... Oh yeah, they can go in a drill, LOL.....
