How to Make a Wind-On Leader | The Strongest Braid to Fluoro Connection

Спорт

Nate Winicki of BD Outdoors demonstrates how to make your own wind-on leader. This is one of the best connections that you can use for attaching hollow core braid to fluorocarbon line. Learning how to make a wind-on is something every serious fisherman should add to their arsenal. It allows you to fish a very heavy class line without having to create a bulky knot, not to mention it provides a stronger connection than you can achieve with any knot.
This technique is extremely popular among big game fishermen, but can also be utilized in any fishery. Wind-ons are perfect for targeting bluefin, yellowfin, wahoo, billfish, and more. Locally, we prefer to use wind-ons for our kite fishing setups when targeting giant Pacific bluefin tuna, often with 200-400lb test.
Using specific rigging needles, which you can pick up at any local tackle shop, some practice, and a wind-on jig (this helps with the final step, but is not 100% necessary), follow the steps in this video and you'll be well on your way to making your very own wind-ons. In this video, we utilize Seaguar Threadlock hollow core braid and Seaguar Big Game Fluoro Premier, some of the strongest and most abrasion-resistant line available on the market.

Only issue I see with that method is if you break off the leader or need to change, that method isn't a quick fix. I could be wrong just my observation. Thanks for the content enjoy learning different techniques.

Good insight! This is a method/technique that is best done before the trip or during your downtime on the way out. If you're looking for a quick fix, and albright or RP knot would be a good way to go. If you happen to break off above the loop to loop connection, it would most likely be from the braid getting cut off from another line or on the hull of the boat.

Good demo! How do you connect your loop to the mainline? I'm assuming your reel has another braid, or do you use a mono topshot in this configuration? Is there a specific knot you use?

@@dannyshepard9293 you make a Bimini Twist on the main line then you put the two loops together with a cats paw type knot

Great job, I use UV glue on the first inch of leader and braid before I start making my half hitches then I do 3 full hitches at the end and wind it back onto its self like you mentioned.
