Shakespeare wrote, "the whirligig of time brings in his revenges." In other words, you reap what you sow (or sew), so make each stitch sweet!
This week, Jenny Doan is using precut layer cake squares to create a simple star block with a whirligig center. Her fabric is Painterly Petals Meadow by Studio RK for Robert Kaufman, with a pretty white-on-white background of Quilt Town Tossed Missouri Stars.
We'll square each block to perfection as Jenny and Natalie do side-by-side demonstrations of our favorite tools: the Bloc Loc and the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmer.

I've been sewing for 70years & am very confident in my skills. However, occasionally I really enjoy watching others sew. Different methods etc can only help my skill grow. You and your girls are truly expert & I've picked up several tricks I'd not known before. Thanks!

Great for ideas
I can see this as a Quilt of Valor. white wirligigs on blue background and red stars. What do you think?
I love how Natalie just slides in and then slides right back out!! 😂 You ladies are the perfect team; and both look fabulous. Such a beautiful quilt to kick off 2024! Happy New Year quilty friends!! 🧵❤️🎉
I have a black light penlight that I keep in my sewing room to use for my white one white. Works great 👍🏻👍🏻

Me too. I don't trust any other way. Got one under $10 on Amazon.
Love this pattern…so cool. I love star blocks and swirly whirligigs and/or pinwheels. It’s as if you designed it just for me. Great colour choices.
Thank you so much for always being so natural and honest woman. I enjoy watching you so much.
Jenny, oh I just love THIS. YOU and Natalie are a great team. Great job teaching the little tricks that make us all more confident and successful. Bless you and yours. Thank you for sharing this with us. 😊🙏💖🍀🎉🪡🧵✂️🦓Liz
Fun quilt! I make what I call "booger" quilts for a great nephew ... the kind they drag around with them, take to preschool, play on, etc. ... this will make a GREAT "baby" quilt for him and I plan to make a few for him using juvenile "eye spy" type fabrics.
I just learned to make my HSTs using the same method a couple days ago. What a breeze. Gorgeous quilt.
When using white on white and it is hard to see, use a black light and you can tell the right side immediately.
I just love the Bloc-Loc! It makes the construction of my quilt squares go together with ease and just match up without me fighting my points to match up❣️❣️
Omgosh, I love this fabric line! Such a cute quilt!
Thanks Jenny and Natalie, for another great tutorial and easy straightforward instruction ❤
You all explain things so well that even a beginner like me feels confident that they can do it.😊❤🎉🎉🎉
Another great block - love how 4 would make a beautiful baby quilt! Thank you Jenny and Team :)!
I'm always amazed how your quilts come together x
Jenny Doan, you created a beautiful design in scrumpous colors! Thank you for sharing how easy it goes together😊
Natalile you look very beautiful today. Pink really looks great on you!

@@lynnharrell9598 I believe that if someone is doing a great job or looks nice then we should all let them know that we appreciate the efforts that they are making to doing their best! It gives them a boost and I have never had that from family so I believe that we all need to hear that others appreciate the efforsts that we make each day. In basic terms - I have no self confidence and I don't want others to feel as I do.

@@lynnharrell9598 I have gotten angry over the last little bit. There is nothing wrong about saying something postive to or about someone. If you have a problem with my comments then you just need to skip over whatever I have to say. I think that you are the one who seems to have a problem or want to make more out of what is just a simple complment to someone! So please from now on, if you cannot be nice to other people who post, even if it does not pertain to you, then don't make any comments! Thank you and you have a GOD BLESSED DAY! CAUSE I INTEND TO!

Love this pattern. I could see snowballing the 4-inch corner blocks for an additional pop of color.
The painterly fabrics are gorgeous. I have used them to make a kaleidoscope quilt with dark star points. It is stunning.
Omg...the white on white issue...I am there! Sounds brilliant (your fabric). I'm pushing 49 and my eyes are changing - not fun with solid whites nor batiks! 😂 Thank you for your wonderful lessons!❤
Love this quilt! I do the same thing-look at fabric over my jeans to determine the right side!
Haha! Love you and your sense of humor, Jenny! “Make their dreams come true!” Love that❤ Great teaching method! ❤
Absolutely beautiful! ❤
I love this pattern and I love watching all of your tutorials with your girls.❤
Funny how the stars have legs. I would call those points! 😊
Amazing, Jenny. I love the colors, but the technique of eight at a time HSTs is a game changer. 🎶💐💖
Thank you Jenny and Natalie for making Fridays so wonderful. I now think of Friday as the day I begin my day with Jenny, Natalie and Misty❤
I love the tip around draping the white fabric over something dark to see which is the right side. I have just started working with white-on-white fabrics, and this is super helpful!
If you use a black light and shine it on the fabric it is easy to tell which side is the right side.
Thank you for sharing how to sew this lovely quilt! Hope 2024 will be a good year for your family. God bless.
Hello ladies! Thank you so much for all your helpful and fun tutorials. Jenny said tonight she holds the white on white fabric against her jeans or a dark surface and she can tell the right side. I'm sorry I didn't understand what she was looking for to make her decision. I don't have any white on white or I would have tried it at home. Thanks Michael.

When you hold a white on white against a darker surface you can clearly see the right sight of the fabric. The back side looks blurred, on the right side the white pattern is very clearly and sharp
Another beautiful quilt, happy new year to all at Missouri quilting ❤❤❤
Another beautiful quilt. Thank you Jenny & Natalie.
I absolutely LOVE this block, Jenny❣️ Thanks for sharing and mentioning that it would make great baby quilt. I agree and am already planning one in primary colors.
I love "no one ever handed me back a quilt because it wasn't perfect."
Great block with beautiful fabric print. Thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊
I love your tutorials!!! thank you for making them easy to follow.
Jenny, you always have so many helpful tips and tricks. Beautiful Quilt!
#4. I think it may be good luck. Happy sewing!
Natalie you look beautiful! So proud of your hard work 11:00 11:02 ❤😅
I have a small black lite flashlight that makes finding the right side of white on white material super easy
Yes this was fun thank you
Really love this quilt
The fabric is beautiful
I got a small light that I shine on the white on white fabric to easily tell which is the right side. Works great.
I will sure be making this one. Thanks for making it look easy.
Love your extra tips you give us. Thanks
Very pretty loving the colours ❤
I have been sewing for over 60 years but, I have only started quilting 30 years ago. I have been sporadic about it but no that I'm retired I have been more consistently piecing tops and machine quilting some of the lap quilts. You make them all look so easy to do. I haven't tried the double wedding ring or Dresden plate types yet or any stars. I guess I just have to decide to make them. Next is Jacob's ladder. I watched you and the triple play. I can do it. Thanks for the encouragement.
What a great quilt to start the new year! I LOVE the fabric line you used.
This is so cute thank you Jenny and Natalie!
Beautiful!
2:59 Good tip for identifying the right side of the white on white fabric.
The Accuquilt chisel die is perfect for the whirligigs. Love the pattern
Wonderful tutorial! Thanks Jenny!
I love your shortcuts!! They save so much time
Love this quilt 😊
Love it. I'm a sucker for stars in this is just brilliant.
Absolutely beautiful. Love that layer cake pkg
adorable, love how the whirligig got made!
Lovely!! I love it!!
I love this pattern.
Can’t wait to make this pattern, how simple yet quite beautiful
Love this block, Jenny!
One of the prettiest lines of fabric I've seen. Luv this quilt. Carolyn😊
Great looking quilt.
That is beautiful. Next on my list to do. Thank you
I sometimes have trouble with rulers slipping (even those with built-in grippers) so my last order from MSQC included several packages of True Grips. And they are amazing!!! So I’ll make sure to add some to my Clearly Perfect rulers.

What a beautiful quilt ! Jenny, i love the points as this beautiful fabric line makes the stars look as though they are twinkling .❤❤❤😊
I love it!!
Great tip to determine front side of white on white fabric. Thanks!
I love this quilt block!
I was using an off white, tone on tone and had one upside down, in the middle of my top. I decided to leave it, but when my guild had a show, I took that quilt and under fluorescent lights, that block stood out! I didn’t change it. Lol
Beautiful sweater, Natalie!
So pretty. Sometimes I have trouble following some patterns. I want to make this one but afraid to tackle it. If I run into a snag, can you ladies at MS help me out?
Love it.😊
Beautiful quilt!!
Jenny! Get a black light flashlight to see the difference in the white on whites! It's a game changer.

I didn’t even know there is a “thing” with a black light flashlight!! I’ve lived long enough to “know” about black lights 😄😄🫢🫢 but had no clue about a flashlight using black light!! I learn so much from MSQC with every single video - and I’ve been quilting since 1979 when we did everything by hand!

@@sandybruce9092 It is a game changer! I use a lot of white on white, the difference is so obvious. Howard made me an acrylic table that goes around my sewing machine. I put the flash light on the corner facing down. and hold the fabric under the acrylic, it's so obvious the right side from the wrong side. It's helped me so much! With the light shining down, you don't have to worry about it bothering you as you sew.

Wonderful video. It gives me so many ideas. You either fussy cut a few special fabrics for centers or do the whirly gig. Thanks a bunch!
Love the pattern and the fabric
Beautiful block
So pretty!
Beautiful block. And, will be adding to my list of blocks to make!!! 😀👍
This was a fabulous tutorial. I love it ❤.
I LOVE 💕 this gorgeous fabric! And this quilt design is perfect for showing off that beautiful fabric. Thanks for another stunning quilt, Jenny, you really knocked this one out of the park. What a wonderful way to start off 2024. 🎉Happy New Year 🥳!!! ~Diana K.

I think that would be resolved if the rows were offset. Then the points would show up better, instead of tip to tip.
Very cute pattern!!
Beautiful!❤
Thank you for another beautiful block and great tutorial video. I have trouble using regular quilting rulers and my rotary cutter never stays next to the ruler. I think I cut it too fast and it slips even after adding nonstick backing. I use my slotted ruler and the blade stays in between the slots all the time for cutting and the trimming.
Adorable❤️
Very nice. Great easy and charming quilt.
Gorgeous quilt. I love it!
What beautiful fabric. Love this quilt. Thanks for another great tutorial.
Very cute
