    Depends on the charcoal. What was used in this video, not so much it's just left overs from a fire pit. Activated charcoal like what you use in a fish tank filter on the other hand should be able to filter out most particulates and some bacteria as well

    Great video only one little change if I could, don't use plastic bottles as they degrade especially being wet after longer periods of time, use glass and this will be forever, just need to change out the filter material every so often, other then that, I love it!

    I am curious about how this water tastes. I live in colorado and the water that comes from the mountains tastes a lot better to me. I can imagine that the rocks and charcoal he is using makes the water taste good. Does this filter out microbes that can make you sick?

    Make sure to boil your water in any outdoor situation according to the elevation you are on. Different airpressure changes boiling temperatures. Stay safe! :)

    Lol no. You would have to desalinate sea water. But this is just the filtration. You can filter then desalinate.

    Rocks. Any rock that size that's not been polished will do. It's the surface are of the gravel sand and charcoal that clean the water so driveway gravel would work very well

    Does the manufacturing of glass have a larger environmental footprint than reusable plastics? And is more prone to accidental damage? And if you are lost in the wilderness, which are you more likely to encounter, a broken bottle or a nice large 2 litre unbroken glass bottle? Stick with the plastic bottle, it's a lot better in a survival situation.
