Would a metal lid work
@dartofscience
5 ай бұрын
Hi, a plastic lid would work best since it's an insulator.
@The-One-and-Only100
5 ай бұрын
@dartofscience but the wires are already insulated, and the glass is also an insulator
@dartofscience
5 ай бұрын
So, the plastic lid prevents the escape or dissipation of the electric charge, allowing the electroscope to retain its charge for a longer period.. If the metal components of the electroscope were in direct contact with the air or other surroundings, the electric charge could easily leak away through the process of conduction or other forms of charge dissipation. It's like a little shield that helps the electroscope stay sensitive to external electric influences for a longer time.

Hello, despite being burned, it will conduct electricity if there are no breaks or if it is not damaged. However, if the wire is completely burned out or melted, it may be unable to conduct electricity changes in temperature. Although, If you have access to regular copper wire, that would be ideal.
