How to Make a Raspberry Pi Smart Bartender
Ғылым және технология
In this video, we use a Raspberry Pi 3 (you could also use a Raspberry Pi Zero) to make a smart Bartender! The bartender that can make drinks by mixing up to 6 ingredients together at the same time, so you can have anything from a rum and coke to a long island iced tea. It can be customized to make any number of drinks, can be expanded to mix more ingredients, and also has the potential for connectivity with Alexa and Google Home / Google Assistant.
The drinks can be configured on the bartender with two simple buttons and a screen, and you can add any number of drinks to the bartender's repository through the bartender's code.
Please drink responsibly.

A NOTE ON CLEANING:
After you use the bartender, you'll want to flush out the pump tubes in order to avoid bacteria growth. There is an easy way to do this in the configuration menu. Hook all the tubes up to a water source, then navigate to configure-clean on the bartender screen and press the select button. All pumps will turn on to flush the existing liquid from the tubes. I take the tubes out of the water source halfway through to pump some air through the tubes and remove all water from the pumps. Note: make sure you have a glass under the funnel to catch the flushed out liquid.
Sanitation recommendations per FDA is 1 Tbsp bleach in 1 gallon water with a contact time of 2 minutes, then rinse thoroughly for the same time (recommended weekly).

Bartender 2.0: Marry it to a fridge to keep the drinks cool. Add a IR beam sensor to confirm a cup or glass has been loaded before drinks are delivered. Warning system for pumps running dry (out of liquid)?

I would argue that these drinks should be going into a shaker then either stirred or shaken to chill and dilute. The fridge idea, while good; is missing the mark a bit. The margarita mix (to me) is a good indicator that the emphasis is on the project and not the quality of cocktail.

The kind that likes their G&T ice cold even if they forgot to get or make ice. Naturally wouldn't put things inside the refrigerated part that don't belong (brandy, whisky, etc). Unless you mean refridgerating the whole thing, in which case, I agree bad idea, and the Raspberry Pi may not enjoy being iced.

seedorfj hey, some people like coke and flat coke. No one enjoys margarita mix LOL

Just because they used margarita mix doesnt mean you couldn't use tequila, sours, simple syrup, ect. You would just need more pumps. The whole point of this was the concept, or otherwise they wouldn't have made it so easy to edit

Maybe also add in a function to prime the pumps? Just add a menu item and then hold down the select button and it's spins them all so you can make sure everything is ready to pump and that it's the current liquid
Anytime you make a liquid dispensing machine it's good practice to NOT put all the electronics and power supply under the dispenser.

Good call
bartender 3.0 add one proximity/weight sensor to check if there is a glass add a touch screen to make it easy to select a drink and configure and make new beverages and add alexa and/or google support to make it easy! and maybe a cooling environment to store all the drinks and something that checks if your bottles are full and maybe a web panel! hope you like this idea!

Nemo Jansen and something that scans the UPCs on the bottles to make switching out drinks easy. All you need is one of those USB scanners Amazon has for a few bucks.

Could use a weight sensor to detect when the bottle is getting close to empty and show an alert web panel is a great Idea Nemo just log on with your phone from anywhere and have a drink waiting when you get home

Weight sensor could also be used for measuring out the drinks, rather than running the pumps for a set amount of time like you do with mixing paint colours. Alcohol is 0.79 g/ml so if its 80 proof that (60% * 1.00)x + (40% * 0.79)x where x is the desired millilitres of lets say, vodka :)

Mike that's a good idea but instead they could have 6x RFID platforms and you slap an RFID tag on the bottom of each bottle that identifies it

And, add some alcohol-less options, not everyone drinks drinks like gin or tonic.....
I notice these guys haven't made another video since...the bartender must be working too well!

Bartender 2.0: Use opencv and a camera to implement face identification so it can basically ask a known user if they "want the usual" or else to select from a menu
The actors deserve a fricking Oscar holy crap

3 years old and still one of the coolest projects I've seen.
This is sick and looks so much better than the other bartenders. Well done! Finished my magic mirror a few weeks ago so can't wait to save up so I can try to make this. Well done guys, seriously good content as always. Peace
That looks awesome. Love your work.

This is incredible, great video quality and super informative. The one time KZread makes a suggestion I actually like, instantly subbed!!
Awesome - will try it out. You should add an option for flushing the tubes with water for cleaning all tubes in one go.
@hackershack

We have that :D
Amazing work guys!
As a bartender I love the potential of this. Not meant for anything too fancy. But I would love to have this for simple mixed drinks at house parties.
That was pretty impressive! I was looking for a cocktail video, don't know how I ended up here, but I'm glad I did! Amazing guys! Nice work!
I’m not even a big mix drink consumer, but this is easily one of the best pi projects I’ve seen. I would probably add on a small cooler filled with ice and keep the drinks on ice in the back. Either remove the lid or just make a hole for the tubes. You gained a follower
Adding a touch screen world be amazing! Great Job Guys!
That was really a awesome project. Nice job.
Awesome build and love the lights too! Thanks for sharing
Ha, i did this 6 years ago for my junior year microelectronics course for EE. Got honorable mention for the entire project in a competition. Nearly the same exact build and design but with an industrial microcontroller used for the course.
one of the best projects ever!!
Awesome guys.
Your presentation has improved so much lately! You sound alot more enthusiastic and give your projects the justice they need
Finally someone who uses digits for measuring and not fractions. You got the idea!!
This is amazing! Can't wait to see it working with Alexa! :D
Great project. For years I thought of building something like this but lack the programming knowledge! Thanks
I love how you've made it all rue off 12 Volt. I think I am going to be building one of these for the boys camping trips.........
you might want to put the electronics at the side or top of the frame to avoid liquid spills... BTW, nice project!

thank you i was watching this and thinking by myself but what if i spill a drink the everything would burned down....
LCD screen, ice maker what a great add, but great job man love it
Your videos are the best. Keep up the good work!
awesome work bro, Greetings from Brazil
i had had a much more primitive idea and then a quick search and i find all this fantastic work thanks guys!
Loved it. This is going to be my next project... if I ever finish the indoor garden..........
Well bro I love it keep going all the best
I have got to build this. Thanks for the upload
Great job guys! 👍
Way cool! Keep up the interesting work fellas!
Dude that is so cool... What y'all are doing is rad, creating things. And the actually so nice too.
Totally building this!
massive congrats on this project.. subbed.. new fan all the way from Australia...
That is an awesome bar! Love too have one my self now 😋
I'm very impressed. wow so awesome
Great work guys 👍
Better than one you could buy
i love this! cool project!
'We want to interpret Alexa to the project', now that really sells it to me; A great big sun from me, I wanna see that happen!
awesome video.👍👍
Great project!!!
Great Scott!
We have a bar in town which has got a damn huge electric bartender that has access to an entire wall full of ingredients. It can mix an endless amount of different drinks.... Of course everyone want one! :D cool video!
Looks cool
Extremely impressive.
Awesome stuff
well you certainly earned my like!
Great job
this is awesome!!
Wow that's a good one
I made one of these several years ago using Arduino with a LCD with touch panel. The peristaltic pumps have to low capacity, and i upgraded from 4mm tubing to 6-7 mm tubing. Still slow but did the work a bit faster. I recommend looking into small food graded pumps or even air pressure for a improved model.
this machine is awesome. can't wait to build it on my own :) thank you for your video! wuhuw
We love you so much
Great video!
really nice done guys :D
an underrated channel
awesome! cant believe you guys just do this stuff for free haha
Liked and subscribed! That is pretty darn cool.
you guys are awesome. keep it up,
hey great work guys! if i have a suggestion it would be use an air pump to push air into the bottles, with another tube displacing the liquid into the drinks. itll keep the drinks from passing through the pump itself (especially with the coke). you would need another hose for each bottle but it probably keep the fizz better and pumps lasting longer
@nomercyriding
6 жыл бұрын
Skorch he shows you in the video that the type of pump they are using does not have the liquid come in contact with the pump housing. It simply "squeezes" the tube full of liquid.
awesome guys, subscribed
You guys are AMAZING! I like all of your videos I watched so far. I just wish i had that computer knowledge you guys have. If I did I would have made most f your projects myself.
Reading most of the comments makes me sick. Great job guys! Watching the video, I had idea's of my own that I might incorporate into my bartender, but who cares? Make one yourself, and do what you want with it. And give credit to these young men who actually made one, providing a blueprint for the rest of us.
You guys are awesome . It would be good if you add sensors to detect weather the glass is filled or not and also increase the size of the pumps . Even make the selection process simple . It is a great idea to make it Alexa anabled . If you can make it Google home enabled too
I love This Chanel ✌️👍
cool project :D somthing all need to have :D
You're freaking DREAMYYYY!!!!
that was dope

Lad's that machine is the dogs bollox! Awesome work 👍
Super cool
Now that's what I call "Cyberpunk Bartender Action"
very cool
Sweet!!!
I love it
Impressed bell pressed
Dang, Now I want to build one :)
Nice video 💯, i go make 1 by myself👌🍻
mm this sounds great might use my 7inch touch screen instead and have GUI implementation with a few extra functions, but this is a great idea. also needs a mini bar fridge type thing to keep the drinks cool but this is great thanks for the info and links.
My suggestion was to add 3D printed mounts that would accept the bottles and tilt so that you don't have to worry about the tubes staying at the bottom of the bottles. This may also help with maintaining the seal for carbonated beverages. It would probably have to be a larger box and base to support the weight but it might provide a nice way to showcase "the well"
having all of the electrics below the liquids is stressing me out a bit haha. especially with conductive? metal buttons. great looking project, tho!
That is fantastic! One code recommendation: Add two automated scripts for cleaning out the lines. One for cleaning out 1 line if you are switching out a single drink, and another to "Clean All". =) Great Job!
Thanks for the idea! I made it but I put in a 3.5 inch touch screen and a raspberry pi
New sub here!♡ absolutely fantastic presentation❤👍😎
fantastic
Also we need a kickstarter, these guys have silently downsized from their hacker house into a hacker shack, what's next? hacker underpass? hacker hovel?
Way too cool
Perfect
If no one else caught this.. the bill of materials includes 3 x Red Pepper Hat, well played.
I wish this was on the market. I have absolutely 0 idea how to do this stuff but would buy a fully built one haha
Love the ambition!! It would be cool if the whole system was integrated with refrigeration and a way to keep dust or other undesirable particles from getting inside the open bottles. At this point it has to be manually setup and disassembled when you are done using it. I love the use of the Raspberry Pi, I'm into aviation so I have a Pi that runs my own adsb/flightaware feeder. I'm always amazed at the versatility of the Pi and this takes it to a whole other level. CHEERS!!
