About Simple Little Life:
This channel has sort of turned (inadvertently) into a knife making channel. But the original idea behind what we wanted it to be is this description below:
Videos on our journey to homesteading. With a recent purchase of a little piece of the Alberta prairie, we're looking to sell our nice suburban home in search of a more meaningful life beyond chasing the "American dream" working for some big company and making someone else rich. It's not about the money, it's about getting the most value from the work I do to improving the life of my family.
Some preparedness, DIY, building quality things with your hands, guns, gear, and outdoor exploration.

Turned out real nice. Great design.
I really am jealous! On your skill and on your approach and precision... You use that bandsaw and grinder like a doctor uses a scalpel! Just lalala and perfect fit... And I LOVE the tiny knife! I'm in a budget, but I totally would totally buy one!
I want to get into knife making eventually. I love those handles may have to do something like that eventually.

I apriciate the subtle plug for your steel company that you use........it helped me find a good company to use
That looked like a mirror finish to me. My 16 yo daughter said she wants that little pendant knife. :-) Thanks for the video.
Absolutely stunning sir. You do amazing work. Really enjoy your knife videos. Very very inspiring.

You used 3/16" 01 for this piece. Are you finding that 3/16" 01 stock needs a soak time in HT? I am getting ready to do a run of kiridashis in 01 and only have a propane forge for HT. The over all dimensions I will be working with are 6"×1"×3/16". I figured I would bring it up to critical/nonmagnetic, soak for a minute then quench at 150 degrees oil temp. Then two rounds of tempering at 400 for 1 hour each.
Very nice job keep up the good work
So no one is going to ask for the links or info on this super chill music he’s got playing?!?! Please send or post the info, loved the video and lessons/insight, the music just made it that much more. I was just relaxing watching you make your art.
Hi Jared, firstly I loved to watch your knifemaking processes, and your ideas that you bring to the craft. I was wondering if you might post your music from your videos in the description, I find a lot of it to be very entertaining. Thanks and keep up the awesome work!
Awesome knife

BEAUTIFUL BLADE
Great looking knife Jeremy! I’ve never tried a mini cleaver, but they certainly seem popular! I have to ask, is that a portrait of Abraham Lincoln on the wall there? 😁
Howdy mate, I'm a bit late to the party but I love your content. You got a new subscriber and a tap on the notification bell. Catch ya next video
Are you using the vice grips kinda like a file guide on the jig grinding there? Im still working on my whole jig situation and how to secure the workpiece. If so, that's a neat idea and will try it myself...
Squad!!!!!
great work as usual. question, why did you sanded all surface before polishing? thanks
Jamie, what belts of trizact do u prefer the gator or the other withe the plain structure ?
I know he’s not the first to make a mini cleaver, or finger grooves, but this entire design is really reminiscent of Alan Folts’ Minimalist designs.
Nice snappy, informative video (again!) many thanks. I didn't find the echo that much of a bother but as has been said, careful what material you put up there if you have to. Matthias Wandel recently made a video where he put up some sound deadening panels. Might be worth checking it out.
Smart way to drill out the scales
Nice build J. Always loved that blade. Two things I don’t understand. How do you set your scribing gauge to get the centre of the steel you are marking ? And, why sand blast the blade if you then hand sand that finish off? Thanks for the vid. Nice to see you set up for n the new shop.
Hi! What are you using to grind with angle?
Love it...... Should do a cheese knife next
what is the minimum thickness you like to have your edge before heatreat?
Do you have a video on you angle set tool that you use for your grinds if not that would be awesome
Cool knife Love the white G10 look Where do you get that ? I would appreciate if you can put up a link where to buy it
BEAUTIFUL job on that mini-cleaver...would love to own one! Have you ever made one with a single sided bevel? & what are your thoughts on it? Wish I had the money to buy what I wanted...lol Hope you have a great day & be safe :)
I really enjoyed watching this. I like your garage set up, too. It's the dream haha. Did you collect all the equipment over time or start with a few key pieces of machinery and build from there?
How is your setup for dust control when grinding knives?
That is nice

Thanks!
Looks good man. Quick question though.. how is that not a mirror finish? I saw another maker say his knife he made wasn't a mirror finish either but yours and his look just like a mirror what is considered a mirror finish?
Can you please tell me where you get your steel from and does it ship to Canada
Could you share your heat treat process as far as the step you take with the even heat kiln. What temp do you heat to before putting the kife in? How long do you soak, ect?
Will you offer the sanding blocks for sale again? I really would like one.
When you are sanding, I see you using the Windex bottle to wet the metal. Is it just water, or do you add something to the water? It seems to foam a little. Are you actually using Windex? Just wondering, because your finish is beautiful.
Hey Jeremy, great video. Ever do a hand polish and notice an "orange peel" effect on the bevels. Happens every once in a while to me and I'm not 100% sure why. Btw I prefer chainsaw files for the spanish notch over the tapered ones you used here, doesn't leave a tapered notch
Nice one again Jeremy. Did you planed to make Viewer Knife vidz or not since you change your frequenecy of publishing?
Have you ever tried normalizing or annealing your rough blanks before you do any grinding? Or does the 01 ship already normalized/annealled? Thanks, take care!
@ShortwickCreations
6 жыл бұрын
Purchased stock metal doesn't need to be annealed as it's not hardened, and since he's not forging the metal and introducing stresses it doesn't need to be normalised.
are you using o-1 tool steel
Where do u get your handle material in Canada?
What oil do you dunk it in
Really wanna see a vid of that little knife
what is that black material you use for the pins??? xD BTW that knife turned out pretty awesome, i love the detail of the polished grind lines, keep up the good work, and in one of your vídeos youve said that youre gonna change some things, in your vídeos due to the knife making... To me keep it simple, like youve been doing til this moment... Like the name of your channel, simple little life.. because of that we can keep knowing you as a person as well, and not only as a knife maker... i like your personality... keep it like that...
How can I order this same style knife from you?!
I’ll take the one your gonna throw away be a nice pattern, how much you want for it?

MORE OF THESE KNIFE HOW TO VIDEOS
You should have just purchased a Shopmate from Gameco in Australia. It has all the features you are talking about adding to your grinder.
Run an isolating switch for the VFD and you can run a number of machines off of it ,got my belt grinder and a disc grinder running off of mine
What kind of type font is used for your banner?

For how much did you sell it if you dont mind me asking ?
Yeah I need a little knife like that for a necklace, or I guess ill try and make one
Try to use a slicing motion when quenching that will eliminate any worp.

Interesting. I’ve actually never had an issue with warp during oils quenching though.
You probably already know, but panels offset from the ceiling are typically better for removing echoes than panels stuck to the ceiling.
I recently made two kitchen knifes out of 100Cr6 (1.3505) steel, but they tend to rust so crazy fast. Like, u leave them for 5 min with just a tiny bit of water on there and u can already see some rust. Do u guys have some tips how i can avoid this? And pls dont say "use stainless steel", cause that doenst help.
Cant you just heat treat it again?
@Simplelittlelife
6 жыл бұрын
Probably could but I was getting pretty thin on the edge (.008”) and I’m pretty sure it would warp in the oil being that thing. Kind of a “do I want to spend time trying something that might now work or just do what I know without botching it up” decision. It who knows, maybe it wouldn’t have warped?... Cheers👍
How do I order one ?
I got a video on wiring and programming the KBAC if you need any help, or just hit me up, I'd be glad to help. I've never tried the kirinite scales, I do have some white G10... The knife looks good as always...Take it easy.
