    E, Iove the videos you're putting out about filming sports! So insightful for a beginner like myself. I will be filming youth wrestling and want to learn as much as I can before next season, so I can make a quality season highlight film to sell to parents/ athletes as small a fund raiser for the team, as well as recruiting tool for seasons after. Any suggestions for filming wrestling specifically?

  • @BeyondTheGame_E

    @BeyondTheGame_E

    5 жыл бұрын

    Thanks Justin I don’t know much about wrestling to be honest but typically my advice is always to get as much variety in your footage as possible. Get shots of the wrestling action from various angles in wide and close ups, but also get shots of the crowd, coach and ref. That way you’ll have plenty to work with in the edit. Also it would be worth recording some of the wrestlers on the team talking about the program, why they chose to join, what they learned, how far it will take them, that sort of thing. You can use that audio as narration for your recruiting and/or fundraising videos.

    Thank you Sir- Wonderful videos. My Rugby videos to date have no editing what-so-ever. I click record, record, stop and post. What you see is what you get, an as is where is type of thing. I film the game so that friends and family who, for what ever reason, cannot make the game can still take joy in watching. Not to mention my Grandson is in the team! There is an expectation that the game is watched the same day as filmed- I have not the time to floss it all up, but return from work and upload. Even so, the videos are well received and appreciated- what a buzz that is I cannot tell! Families from Italy to the UK have followed grandchildren etc at play in New Zealand. Wonderful! There are a few things I wish to do in time, next season perhaps. 1) To display the current score and to add a countdown timer for the half. 2) To perhaps remove unnecessary pans, say panning from one group to another replaced with cutting from one group to another. And I suppose removing shots of my feet upon the grass. Such things I should be able to do reasonably quickly one hopes. Anywho, the making of an interesting Rugby video in this case rests not so much with the editing but with the actual filming. I wish to emulate a television broadcast within the obvious limitation of a single camera from a fixed point. I post what I consider to be my best effort to date; SNIPS Hutt Valley v Rangitikei 1st & 2nd half 04-10-19 kzread.info/dash/bejne/f4VttqSjZ7m3oJs.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/c6KFvMqLeKTKhtI.html The tournament was a learning curve for me- not the least of which is dealing with absolutely atrocious weather conditions- my preparations were found wanting under such an assault! While I realize there is considerable room for improvement, yet I'm very happy thus far. I have a list of gear to purchase, both for making the actual filming a little more pleasant, but also to improve the finished product. If you could find the time I'd dearly love to have some feedback from you. Kind Regards, Ron.

    Hey Ron first of all thank you for reaching out and taking the time to write such a detailed message, it's really appreciated. I do have a couple tips for you. First of all, i would suggest investing in a wind shield for your microphone. Simply because, if you're going to film a whole game on a windy day, the sound of friction on your microphone can get quite irritating after a while. Also, if you have the opportunity to film SAFELY from a higher vantage point, I suggest you do so. It will help the viewers see the ball carrier even when there's other players between him and your camera. It will also allow the viewers to see the lines on the field and therefor have a better understanding of where the action is at all times. If you have a pickup truck, you could park it in reverse next to the rugby field and film from the bed of the truck. If there's a safe access to the roof of the rugby club, you could potentially film from there. But obviously, safety should be your main concern. Don't go taking crazy risks! Good luck with it all and keep me in the loop.

    @@BeyondTheGame_E . Thank you. Yes, a furry mic is on the shopping list, amongst other things... Height is an issue- vehicles on field is a no no. I've pondered ladders through to 44 gallon drums through to plasterers stilts! Those fields with stands put me too far away- camcorders are not without their limits, not to mention the limits of the operator... It's an issue that may remain an issue... Anywho, it is what it is as they say. At least friends and family may see a little of what would otherwise be nonexistent. Till next season... Thanks again... (-:

    If you have it with you on the court to film up close action then yes, that would be great. If you plan on filming from the sidelines or the stands, all you'll have to work with is a very wide shot of the court so it will be hard to edit anything exciting.

    The best softwares in terms of professional tools and having the ability to use third party plugins to push things even further, would have to be Premiere Pro and Final Cut X. That being said, you can always start with something else and eventually move on to one of these.

    Hello, do you have any video tutorials about getting a license with nba so we can use their videos for highlight plays? Thanks

  • @BeyondTheGame_E

    @BeyondTheGame_E

    4 жыл бұрын

    There’s no such thing as getting a free license to use NBA footage unless you are in a partnership with the NBA somehow. You’ll have to pay hundreds of dollars per second you put in your video if you want to use their footage legally. Unless you use it for commentary purposes but even if that’s what you think you’re doing you’ll have to convince them and that won’t be easy.

    I film for all the sports teams at my high school and sometimes make/edit highlight reels now and then. But I film for the teams to watch afterwards to watch on how they did.( you know like a film session with the team. And well I was wondering what could I improve in the editing part when I have to get all the players in the shot. Thx

    BeyondTheGameTV what I mean is, I film the games for the team to watch afterward so when the game is going on I have to get every player on the court/player at that time. If that makes sense.

    I see. Well you can either use a second camera so you can cut between two different angles, or you can zoom into your footage in post to give the illusion that you have close up footage. Depending on the quality of your camera and how wide your shot is, the second option might not look great.

    Do you think the Sony 18-135mm on an Sony a6400 would be able to get those closeups for my kids basketball games? I’m usually court side at one end of the court and they play in sports complexes with the courts right next to each other.

  • @BeyondTheGame_E

    @BeyondTheGame_E

    5 жыл бұрын

    I guess it depends how tight you want these close-ups to be. 135mm probably won't get you a tight close-up at the other end of the court. However it should cover your half-court pretty well. So you can either switch from one end to the other when your team is switching side, or you can embrace the "far away" look which could be a good way to have a healthy mix of wide and close ups to work with in post.

  • @BeyondTheGame_E

    @BeyondTheGame_E

    4 жыл бұрын

    It depends how far you are and how tight you want your shots to be really. But ideally you need to have some range so that all your footage doesn't look the same. Filming football you might be able to get away with a 70-200mm zoom lens but if you're filming basketball indoors you'd probably need more of a 24-70mm. But at 70mm you better not be filming from the back of the stands though.

  • @BeyondTheGame_E

    @BeyondTheGame_E

    5 жыл бұрын

    I have a video coming out next week about cameras. But regarding good slomo, the higher frame rate your camera can do, the slower your footage can be without loosing quality. If your videos are in 30fps, you’ll need a camera that can film in 60 or 120fps so you can slow your footage down to 50% or 25% at full resolution.

Also want to use graphics to display what I am talking about, like a coach would on a whiteboard? Example, If I took some certain plays of the football game and "copied" them to a youtube video that I talk over and use graphics? Thank you

    You could use an editing platform to add all the graphics and record a voice over. Or you could maybe do a screen recording on a tablet where you’d be playing the video and using a pen to add X’s and O’s as you talk.
