The seal is always the buggar. I use a dog-toy ball (foam core, not a hollow tennis ball) slightly bigger than the suction tube and secure that to the end of the plunger with a wingnut on a bolt that goes through the whole thing and a few washers and whatever. If you do it just right you can still tighten the wingnut when it needs, but take care where you are putting the glue

Can I suggest for both your great home built one and even for the expensive steel ones, use an old thong (flip flop) for the section that is inside the tube. I have the expensive type and have for years been using a section of a thong. Even better is you just use the steel pipe to cut out the right size circle :) Creates a perfect seal and is hard waring and free if you have a blow out on a thong :)

I think it has possibilities. They do use oil to help keep the seal don't they? That could be a problem.

@@billy-go9kx idk literally it popped into my head that it looked like an old bicycle pump and thought huh I wonder if that could work. I've got an old hand pump about 7-8 in long I'm gonna try and see if I can convert it into a miniature yabby pump.
