    Hi! I watched this video about a month ago and loved it. I decided to purchase all the supplies and I finally made it today. I personalized the HTV layers with names. It looked great and so happy to see that the HTV adhered well without damage to the faux leather. My issue is that the glue isn’t seeming to hold well and it isn’t as firm as I thought it would be. Do you know how well these hold up over time? I am still happy with the result just thinking I may have to change something for a more rigid keychain. Thank you so much for the tutorial!

  • @AmyRomeu

    Hi, Bruce. Thanks for your comment. My daughter has keychains we've made using this technique on her school backpack and they've held up well all year. Two ideas for you: did you start out with a relatively thick and firm piece of faux leather? That really helps. Also, did you glue the halves together and press them under something heavy overnight? That's another key to making the finished project firm and well pressed together. Let me know if any of those suggestions help! Thanks again. Amy

    @@AmyRomeu Hi Amy, yes I used the supplies in your supply list so it is the same faux leather, etc. I followed your directions exactly. When I typed the above comment it had only set up a few hours. I put them under the books again and checked the next morning and the glue has firmed up and the area with the name/HTV is now glued well. I guess I was too anxious to see it! I am definitely going to make more. I may try a little interfacing/stabilizer along the portion where the key ring goes for extra strength. Thank you again for the wonderful project and step by step tutorial. - Lauri

  • @AmyRomeu

    @AmyRomeu

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks! I don't like using hot glue because you can't spread it thin and evenly all over. I like using a thinner glue that will let you glue all over up and up to the edge in a nice, thin layer. Then when you press the glued keychain under something heavy like a book, it makes the edges very tightly glued and almost seamless. The glue I used in this video does hold up really well! I also recommend any good fabric glue or craft glue like Bearly Art Glue. I've been making all of my keychains recently with Beacon Fabri-Tac, too. Whatever glue you use, try for a thin glue and then be sure to press the glued item well for several hours for best results. :)

    Hi I just found this on faux leather and I have been dying to find information on making a leather cover for over a small note book to keep my new grandson medical records such as shots, and the records that are needed to be kept all his life. I would like to emboss his name and date of birth on the leather cover so it can be a place for his important records to be kept. If you could help me I have never worked with faux leather wasn’t sure you can emboss with my Maker machine. I would be so excited if you could show me how!

  • @AmyRomeu

    @AmyRomeu

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi, Norma. Thanks for your comment. That's a lovely idea. If you want to emboss a journal cover, you will want to use genuine leather and not faux leather. Genuine leather will hold the design, faux leather won't. It will just tear. The process you would use with your Maker would be debossing or engraving genuine leather. I don't have a video on that, but my friend Jen Swift from Well Crafted Studio has a great video on cutting and debossing a leather bracelet cuff with a Maker that will be super helpful to you! Generally, you double tap on a zipped folder on an Apple device to unzip the folder, and you right click and select "Extract" on a Windows device. But if that doesn't work for you, you may want to Google "how to unzip a file with a [insert your device and operating system]" for specific instructions. :)
