What power supply did you use? I can't find a suitable one

Just an observation and a polite suggestion. By placing the motor inside the PVC tube and covering the ends with clear plexi sheet you have restricted the flow of air through the motor. The motor relies on air for cooling and therefore without the flow of air passing through the motor it will overheat and burn out. Some extra holes in the Plexi sheet and around the PVC tube may help with ventilation and heat dissipation. Other than that a nice little project.

some gear mechanism is required to increase torque !

Sirf thermocol me hole hoga. Motor shaft bhi gol hai aur holder Bhi gol hai,pressure padega toh shaft nikal jayega. Only for student projects.

Can someone with more knowledge than me tell me about DC motors that provide good torque? Would this example have decent torque if the speed was reduced with a potentiometer, or would the reduced voltage also significantly reduce torque (as I suspect it would)? What sort of DC motor could pull a decent load? Would we have to use gears to achieve this?

Just plug in any DC power supply, depend on the DC Motor power rating.
