    I wanted a hanging canopy bed. But I saw this and fell in love. I just came back to the video to send it to a friend and got sucked in watching it again. 🤦🏽‍♀️🥴😅 such great construction and detailed notes. I’m such a nerd. 🙃🤦🏽‍♀️

    This is extremely impressive. Too complicated for me to try to replicate but inspiring! I'm thinking of adopting a few of these design ideas for the canopy 'bed' I am making - there will be a real, store-bought bed in the middle of a bespoke black painted frame surround, so it's not really a 'bed' more of a 'bed surround'! I would never have thought the scaffolding would look so good though not my aesthetic - it looks amazing!

    So the black ceiling seriously has inspired me to do the same especially when you add the lighting it really is a nice touch! I just got a low profile bed but no head board though so looking to add something unique to make it stand out more! Why is cutting wood so therapeutic lol loving this and your attention to detail/technique or maybe it’s your voice lol either way def a vibe😉 ❤

One tip that’s different from the video is marking the holes on the beams by clamping them in place temporarily while the hardware is already bolted to the posts, rather than marking the beams while they’re on a work surface. It’ll probably result in a more accurate / tighter fit. Good luck!

    New subscriber. Looking to dive into the DIY world with the new coming year and recently purchased home. Any chance of an illustrator tutorial vid for interior design beginners? Keep up the sick work.

  • @SeizetheDIY

    @SeizetheDIY

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks for subbing and for the kudos! Sounds like you're in a similar scenario with your home... I appreciate the compliment on the brick accent wall- I think it's probably the most realistic and easily installed compared to real brick, but if I was going to do it again, I'd probably use the brick veneers on fiberglass sheets that they have now (link is in the vid description). Glad you're liking the bed design/build- I'm pretty excited about how well it actually came out- I've never built anything at that scale before lol, but it gives me confidence to continue with bigger projects. I have a unique design for a home gym planned next. As far as an Adobe Illustrator tutorial- I could do that... I am curious if there's a standard/better suited app for interior/furniture design out there though. I always see 'sketchup' being mentioned everywhere. I use Illustrator because it's the standard app for my career in graphic design, and found that I could translate some of the core technical capabilities (like vector art at 100% scale) to plans/blue prints. Vector art is the key foundational file type that links to all things in the production world, whether it's 3d renders, laser-cutting/cnc, water-jetting, 3d printing, engraving etc... so, regardless Illustrator is valuable as hell to know, depending on what you want t use it for. I use it for DIY to create visual mockups / plans but I've used it to create water-jetted metal brackets and decorative straps for wood, a guitar body, pendants for jewelry, hemtags for clothing, etc... in my opinion, it is what you make out of it and what you can envision. I don’t know anyone who uses it for DIY like I do, but I’m sure there’s some folks out there. Let me know what you have in mind for an intro in the app- more fundamental understanding of how to use it, or applying a fundamental ability to use it to plans and visual mock-ups. Thanks again

    Hi! Thanks so much for the compliments on my bed design and build. I was about 3/4 of the way done with the plans and then realized that I would basically be selling builders a tutorial so that they could market and sell my design. I was asked to build the bed for a few other people and the profit there is much greater than offering plans for download. So, now I’m torn about which direction to take things… I’ve been considering starting an Etsy to take custom orders. What’s your thoughts on this? Thanks again

    Hey Stephen, Thanks for the feedback! I really appreciate that. I too, love matte black and I actually painted the first coat matte, but it was so chalky that even touching it lightly with my hand left white scuff marks, so I had to go with Satin. Thanks for watching... more to come!

    Dude, let me know if you have any questions if you decide to build it! I use Adobe Illustrator… there’s no special construction capabilities built-in but it can be used to draw lines and boxes etc perfectly to scale and then you can add color and texture if you know how to use the program for design. I just blend both ideas together, but you could literally just draw perfect lines without any color to make plain plans.

    Thank you! ☺️ There’s no box spring under the mattress because I built a platform underneath. I could be wrong, but I think all box springs do is provide a flat surface to hold a mattress because most bed frames don’t have a solid or complete-enough area between the frame.

  • @SeizetheDIY

    Thanks for watching. As far as I know, a box spring only provides a large flat surface for the mattress to sit on because most bed frames are only a wireframe without any flat support. The frame I built has a platform with a large flat surface for the mattress, so no box frame is needed.

    Hello. Thanks so much for watching and for your kind words. I’ve had a few requests and considered building bespoke versions of the bed made to order. I think the challenge is, assembly requires some knowledge and carpentry skills from the buyer, and freight would be expensive. I have considered assembling on-site for the buyer as well. The material costs to build aren’t too bad but the labor for me to build it would increase the total price tag to be somewhere around what a quality 4-poster king bed goes for. After googling it, 10-15k is what is market price is. If that’s of interest for you, please email me: info@seizethediy.com Thanks!

    how much would you charge to build this exact bed frame

  • @SeizetheDIY

    @SeizetheDIY

    Жыл бұрын

    I've considered offering the bigger pieces that I design on Etsy as custom orders, but I think it could become too time consuming and prevent the free time to work on new videos/projects. So, I'm actually looking for furniture builders who I could subcontract the work to. The answer to your question might be shocking since the cost savings in DIY work is mostly labor. If I were building a unique piece like this bed for sale, I would probably consider the common price for an equivalent canopy bed- ones built from solid wood in a similar style without any metal hardware, pipe accents, lighting, or dimmer cost around 3-5k.. so, you factor in all the additional features and it would probably be around 7-8k. There could be a way to shave cost for sales, but without knowing how much a subcontractor would charge, it's difficult to know. Ideally, I'd make the price as low as possible though. Thanks for watching!
