Seize The DIY

I started 'Seize The DIY' to share my experience and passion for various trades, aesthetics, and innovation with the hope of inspiring others to seize the moment and create something intriguing.

I work as Sr. Creative Director, Innovation Dept / New Wine Brand Development. I'm AAU, S.F. alumni, with over 17 years of experience in graphic design, package design, point of purchase, and corporate identity.

I've lived an alt lifestyle- skateboarding, guitar in a metalcore band, etc, but I have a passion for all genres of music and an appreciation for fundamental ways of doing things... yet, the sentiment of challenging the status quo and thinking differently will always be a part of my work.

I love art, graphic design, interior design/restoration, industrial design, product design, product displays, guitar, vocals, clothing design, music/production, printing/pre-press, photo/video, automotive, creative process, legal, trademarks/patents... and many will be content here.

    This is extremely impressive. Too complicated for me to try to replicate but inspiring! I'm thinking of adopting a few of these design ideas for the canopy 'bed' I am making - there will be a real, store-bought bed in the middle of a bespoke black painted frame surround, so it's not really a 'bed' more of a 'bed surround'! I would never have thought the scaffolding would look so good though not my aesthetic - it looks amazing!

    I love how your window turned out. I have seen a lot of various foam board projects on YT. When I purchased my house the previous owners left a whole bunch of it along with cherry wood paneling, all kinds of tiles and other building materials. I think he must of did home remodeling and construction. He built a super cool treehouse; my grandkids love it. Very well made. I could see doing something like this to the windows. They were moving out of state so they left quite a bit of stuff which some I have already found use for as I love up-cycling. I do wall murals and I like the 3D effects.

    Hello. Thanks so much for watching and for your kind words. I’ve had a few requests and considered building bespoke versions of the bed made to order. I think the challenge is, assembly requires some knowledge and carpentry skills from the buyer, and freight would be expensive. I have considered assembling on-site for the buyer as well. The material costs to build aren’t too bad but the labor for me to build it would increase the total price tag to be somewhere around what a quality 4-poster king bed goes for. After googling it, 10-15k is what is market price is. If that’s of interest for you, please email me: [email protected] Thanks!

    Do you have a box spring or just use the mattress on the slats? Trying to see where the height is coming from because the slats look so close to the floor?

  • @SeizetheDIY
    @SeizetheDIY8 ай бұрын

    Thanks for watching. As far as I know, a box spring only provides a large flat surface for the mattress to sit on because most bed frames are only a wireframe without any flat support. The frame I built has a platform with a large flat surface for the mattress, so no box frame is needed.

  • @SeizetheDIY

    Thanks man! The nightstands were originally different- I stripped the lacquer off, stained them a new color to match my media console and changed all the hardware to contemporary black that echoes the lines in the bed. I’ll see if I can find a link, but there’s a clip on my tiktok if you search for my channel name there

  • @SeizetheDIY
    @SeizetheDIY8 ай бұрын

    I just found your video while looking for a way to repurpose leaded glass door inserts. They already have a gothic arch, so I need something easy to shape. This might be exactly what I need, but how do you think the strength of the foam board would hold up to a 1x4.5 leaded glass?? Thanks so much for this beautiful project!

  • @SeizetheDIY
    @SeizetheDIY8 ай бұрын

    Thanks for watching! Glad it could help you… the foam is strong but idk if it can hold leaded glass. I used to have a workshop by a stained glass artist and his work was VERY heavy. I think I’d probably use the same technique I show in the video but with wood.
