Nice build. I don’t know how you tube knew I was thinking about doing this in my VW, I haven’t searched this topic at all.
Dude I was stressing my build and building a small form fit mdf box and found this vid gave me total confidence to make fiberglass and put a bigger sub then originally planned thanks!!

I know it's been a while but good job youngblood. Smart way of doing things. If you had this customed it would have broke the bank.

How's it going? I'm new to all of this. I have a 19 GTI and was wanting to put a subwoofer in. What would be a good size? I don't need to have anything crazy, just enough to have fun with. Been looking at Kicker 48TCWRT102 sealed enclosure with single 10" CompRT 2-ohm subwoofer and passive radiator, but I don't know much....
Looks good, I did the same Fiberglass enclosure in my R a few years ago but did not make a box/flat look like yours in the front. Also have my amp hidden under near my spare tire.

Were you worried about the heat from the fiberglass resin effecting that wiring loom? Does it not get too hot to melt the sheathing of those wires? Love the look and considering this for my 2013 Jetta Sportwagen Tdi unicorn. Looks great!
@TMWYT
3 жыл бұрын
If you use the correct size wire is does not get hot :)
nice!!
How did you get the proper air space measurement?
How long you take to finish the installation of the subwoofer?
Love the wheels on the black GTI. Euro customers usually only get those types of wheels. How did he get those wheels? I don't know why, but I think they make the GTI look pretty nice compared to the standard GTI S model wheels (the blade-style wheels).

OEM MK7 Golf R wheels were on the car when he bought it! They do look very cool on the GTI, especially since they’re 19s
You guys are from Utah??? I’m from Idaho I’ve got a mk7.5 golf R I’d love help with doing this to, I would definitely make the drive over to you guys
Quick question! I applied the masking tape and the layout earlier today and I want to complete the job tomorrow so please get back to me at your earliest convenience! My question is did you guys use multiple layers of Fiber Mat or just the first then multiple layers of Resin? It's my first time doing so and I want it to come out good. Thanks
@hellaflushhonda

Cut out small squares of the mat, then lay some resin place the mat and do a layer of that, then do it enough to do like 3 “layers”

any advice how to fit a typical wooden sub stealth box so it does not fall down into the same location as yours. Thanks

You can put the box wherever you’d like! Custom made or not.
Nice work if you can give more list of things used like fibre glass resin mats and staff really appreciated.

Fiberglass resin, Fiberglass Mat, masking tape, cardboard, MDF, paint brushes or foam brushes, bondo glass, wood screws, felt fabric, leather fabric, fabric adhesive
I’m inspired. Just called US composites to order resin, resized I don’t know how much to get. And two gallons is significantly more expensive than one - they ship separate and have a hazmat fee. How many gallons of resin on this?? My build will be similar
So the red vynil was applied over the carpeted wrap? Nice

How long did the whole process take
How did you attach the mdf to the fibreglass
Красавцы 👍
Couple of questions…. How does it stay in place once its done? Can it be done on both sides? And does the box has to have any sort of hole for the sub to release air?
@TheFreesabin

yea , can be done in both sides , but use some brace inside and a thick frontplate :D . u can bold the box from the inside .
Subs clipping hard but I just bought a mk7 and love the build I'll be copying it smart man smart

We adjusted it, sorry for the poor tuning 😭
Nice job, went though the previous comments, no details on figuring out the air space for the speaker, that is where the real calculations comes in and would be useful to KZreadrs. Also no video of pulling the fiberglass mold out of the car, again would be useful to speaker box builders.
How did u get the cut out box to fit securely in the shell? Whats stopping it from falling in?
@TMWYT
3 жыл бұрын
The wood face is secured to the fiberglass shell using bondo-glass, it’s a mix of bondo and fiberglass. It holds it like cement and seals off all gaps for an air tight box

@@TMWYT Ok Great Bondo-glass thanx for getting back I really appreciate it. Im gonna try to tackle this project myself and will be using ur video to do so.
good idea, and cool color just the only problem that you had to cut the base the floor that you shut made shorter the box to do less invasibe to the car at the time qhe you want to sell it
How did you wire it
I’ve been looking for one to buy instead of having to make one on eBay and google, any recommendations? Budget friendly maybe ? 😭

If budget is your goal, follow this tutorial and make one!
What did you use to glue the wood face to the fiberglass?
@TMWYT

Bondo-Glass, its basically bondo mixed with fiberglass strands and resin.

@@TMWYT Did you put it inside and outside or just outside? I would be concerned just doing it outside that it still might push in.
@TMWYT

Just outside, the face was a pretty tight fit already, bondo glass cemented it into place for eternity. Months later box is is still doing great :)
Does the floor still open up to access the spare?
@TMWYT
3 жыл бұрын
Yes it’s all custom you can make it do whatever you’d like. He just lifts up the floor to access the spare!🔥
About how much is it in just materials and how long did it take you , I wanna do this to my Mk6
@TMWYT
2 жыл бұрын
I’d say about 100-150$ depending on size, and takes 2-3 days since the fiberglass needs to cure for 24 hours
Am I mistaken and you did hook up both sides of the sub?
@vincentsimmons1945
5 ай бұрын
I didn't notice a second set of wires it either. I only saw one wire from the speaker. If that is true, you're only using one voice coil of a dual voice coil (dvc) sub.
What’s the volume of the box, I have to do this for my mk6 gti.

Can’t remember the volume but I know we built it to the specs of the sub!

With the premium with the fender audio
@TMWYT
2 жыл бұрын
We deleted the fender audio subwoofer that was inside the spare tire, cut the signal connector plug off and connected it to an LC2i which then converts amplified signal to our RCAs that connect to the AMP. Dealing with the Fender Audio system has been tricky and we are still trying new ways to make it work the best, but we have decent subwoofer levels as of now.
How does it sound verse a ported box?
@TMWYT

Less air movement, better response

What was the point of cutting the plastic on the gti?
Should have shown how well the sub floor(spare tire compartment cover) comes in and out after sub brackets are screwed into place. Get a flat tire then can't get to spare tire.

Any idea how much that box weighs? I was thinking of going with the Focal Utopia MW10 cause it has a really foot air space requirement but im building a race car sorta so weight is a concern. I think the sub weighs 17 lbs any idea what the fiberglass setup with MDF weighs? Thanx. Its going in this with Audison Thesis 3 ways up front. Unsure on amp/dsp yet. kzread.info/dash/bejne/f5hr3JiFXbu-gbA.html

Sounds like a rad setup man! I’d say around 40-50lbs now that we have 12 inch in it. If you are going for weight savings for track/drag days I would just make the sub/box/amp all quick disconnect so you can easily remove when needing to drop the extra weight! Then when your just driving around town you have good bass.

Why put a ported sub in a sealed box?
@TMWYT
3 жыл бұрын
Subs are subs. There’s sealed enclosures or ported enclosures. You get better sound and response from a sealed box, but you get more low frequency bass volume out of a ported box. Just depends on what you’d like to do. My cousin wanted a setup exactly like mine so we built a sealed box.
