Note: basting stitch is long, usually the longest stitch on your machine.

Yep! I've done other videos talking about different stitch types, so I assume my audience is aware. Maybe I should mention it each time in case some folks are new. Thanks for helping people out :)

I thought I would be seeing an over-the-shoulder bag until I saw the pieces you had cut out in preparation. I really liked the fabric you used and seeing my machine being used so I enjoyed the video. Thanks for the laugh about the deodorant. I can totally relate to finding all the stink of people very annoying. You will need to make a separate bag or pouch for your phone with a bag that isn't fully lined. Even serged edges can scratch the front glass, camera lenses, and loosen front screen protector. You can sew a loop into the seams when you sew your gussets to clip another pouch inside. Or sew over the already sewn seam on a belt loop to attach an inside loop. Also keeps the pickpockets from snatching your phone or other valuables. I've learned to include a loop or two in every bag I make. Just food for thought. I know you were keeping it simple, following an existing pattern, but some minor modifications aren't difficult to add for a beginner.

The deodorant comment made me think this would be a great washbag for trips, lined with vinyl inside as well. One big strap on the back instead of the belt loops. Thanks Tock!

That remark about deodorant at the end made me laugh so hard. Anyone who's ever been to a convention relates xD Lovely tutorial, thanks for posting. A silly question: did you use denim needle for the vinyl? BTW love the rainbow overlocker stitch, such a fun detail

You’ve opened my eyes to the glorious wonder that is fray check, now I need to get me some basting spray p.s. I enjoyed that you showed your mistake of accidentally not cutting a piece of the pattern long enough, it’s a good reminder that even experienced sewers can make mistakes and that us newbies shouldn’t stress too much about ours

This might not be the place for it but I have a suggestion for a tutorial video... Show the various stitches and seams you can make with a serger machine. 4 thread overlock 3 thread overlock 3 thread super stretch overlock narrow rolled hem wide rolled hem and all the others I can't thin of at the moment also I am interested in the cover stitch /serger machine particularly whether two machines would be better then a combination machine. cheers

I just bought a combination machine which I love (Pfaff Coverlock). I plan things out so I don’t have to switch back and forth between functions in the middle of a project, which takes a few minutes each time. I highly recommend trying one out in person so you can see how difficult it is to rethread.

I had to pause the video at 12:27 (while you were about half through clipping the side gusset to the back panel) to attend to a visitor at the door. When I came back to restart the video something about the still image bothered me. It took a few minutes to realize the mistake you were making, I assume you will correct the mistake once the video starts again or you will not be able to turn your bag right-side out when you finish sewing the back panel. EDIT - I was right right you fixed it..... lol
