I just got my Erlbacher CSM yesterday. Took me all afternoon and I had to start over many times but I finally successfully completed the cast on bonnet. My first project! 🎉 I had your video on play / pause / rewind / play all day, thank you for the great tutorial! I’m going to make a few more before moving on to socks.

Nice video Aquilla. I have mastered making cast on bonnets, tubes, heels and toes, several pairs of socks now. Now I need to get to know my ribber. I have installed it a couple times but I drop stitches when I am transfering. I suppose its just a matter of time and practice.

Thank you! Sounds like you are well on your way with your machine. Aaahhh the ribber. It really is a delicate dance with it. I agree, it will take practice with transferring those stitches.

Erlbacher will send a set up bonnet with your machine. You can cast on without a bonnet. Its a bit harder but if you do not have a bonnet and need to make one, you can do that.

hi, thank you for your video. I have purchased a vintage CSM and want to make a set up bonnet. i generally get the method but i see that you start with your current set up bonnet. As i dont have one, how do i get started? Sorry if that dosen't make sense! I hand knit socks but the CSM is a new venture.

There is a way to cast on without a bonnet. I will try to make a video of that. I have actually never done it before. But I will try. Also, I could make you a bonnet as a custom order from my etsy shop. 😊

I assume you acquired a starter bonnet with your machine? And its so much more helpful to see someone else struggling with a new technique. Your willingness to help and speed of response, has made a difficult day a whole lot better! Thank you from Wales, Uk.

I enjoyed this but I'm a little lost. Is Mr. Johnny dyeing up yarns? How is his Granny Square britches coming along? I.hope you tape him wearing these. What are you making ? You keep saying a bonnet but I don't believe it's a baby bonnet.

Plus he has been super busy with work. I update my projects on the podcast, so stay tuned there. I am getting close to seaming the inseam. 🙂🙂

Normally you get a bonnet with your machine but I understand that could be a problem if you get it 2nd hand. Etc. You can buy one. But I have a video on how to start if you have no bonnet. You can also use the mesh bags that come on veggies like onions. Let me find the video and post the link to your comment

Another way to get that second camera angle is to do the whole process a second time from a different angle. Then edit them together. Very time consuming but worth it until you can afford a second camera.
