Back in theday I did fences. When I had weird slopes, I made a template from about 12"x96" 3/4" plywood that matched the dog ears, set it to match the slope with a few screws or clamps, and cut the fence tops to be straight with a 1/4" trim router bit. Pretty fast and takes all the crap out of leveling the panels as they go in.

Flip flops for the win !! i do most of my outside work in flip flops! i just filled in a hole from where an old dilapidated shed used to be. Previous homeowner just let it rot and sink into the ground. Once the shed was out,it took FOUR dump trucks (~80 yards) of fill dirt to bring the land up enough to where it doesnt pool water and we can FINALLY get to installing our fence! I just might make a video of it so you can see the before and after haha. Great video! I'll be using Sika for the post fill as well. Glad to see it's holding up!

As a suggestion, for me, I would have much preferred seeing what you did in real time versus fast motion, as to be clear on each step that you take. Maybe something to consider for your future videos. Thanks for taking the time to share this project!

Man, I get jealous when I see people able to dig a 30" deep hole with just a post hole digger :-) I just built about 80' or so of fencing for an animal pen, and here in SW Missouri, digging the post holes was a CHORE. I ended up with most holes between 18" and 24" deep before the rocks just made going any deeper without a power auger impossible. I did set each post fully in concrete with a good amount of flare at the bottom of each hole, so hopefully, they hold up. I really like the idea of the "threshold" under the gate, and I will be adding one to my project soon. I am also really impressed you were able to install the hinge hardware by yourself. (I used the exact same kit on my single door gate). I had to call in reinforcements from the wife to hold the hinges while I marked them :-) Anyway, great video, and thanks for providing some knowledge that I will be using when I add a second, 2 door gate in the spring to allow me a larger opening to get in and out of the area.

Good job. Just a suggestion for you, I own a fence company in alabama. So, to get your top straight, once the posts and framing are up. Run what I call a string board. Set a string board up at the corners and pull a string line across the top and level the line. This will serve as your line for all of your fence boards. And you can make it completely level at the top of your fence. Remember, fences dont level to the ground because the ground isint level. Level it at the top, back fill with dirt or trim the bottom. That is just what we do. I applaud you for your method that worked for you though. Keep at it.

Please update in a few years because I gotta know if it’s still standing strong with that foam. Tip: use a string line bud

Great job. I have never used concrete on my fence posts because inevitably the post will rot and you will have to dig up all that cement. A little dirt some water and a good tamp and the fence rails will hold it all in place. Never seen the foam before I'm interested to see how that holds up in the long run. As far as the fence not being flat on top. It's your personal house not a customer's if your good with it keep it. Good job!!

You know another way to it is to put your post in the hole and fill around it with pea shingle.

Like the post at the bottom ty for the idea clean work id probably cut the top of the fence with a string line to even one side to the other might be at an angle but Itd flow together better

I use the chunky paver base mixed with the sand I took out of the ground. Works great but my area is all sand, no clay or rocks.

good job, I'll try that this weekend, however where my current gate is installed made my fence post to lean a little bit. Do you have any ideas or videos about to to repair it? the post was installed a year ago but because of the gate weight start to lean. Thank you.

I started watching this when you had 13 views. I haven't refreshed, so I have no idea what the total is now. lol Great tips. I wish I could have used those panels in my yard. It's just too many elevation changes.

Great job, about to put up a fence in a few weeks, new to FL, live in Jacksonville. Looked everywhere on COJ website, do you need a permit to install a fence? Also, one thing i would have done differently, i would have made the fence the same height and followed the baseboard you used on the gate throughout the entire fence. It would have lessened the gap from the ground and have a more uniform look overall.

here is a link to a local company in Jax, fencedup.com/jacksonville-fences-installed/ Per the FAQs at the bottom of the page you don't need a permit for a fence up to 8' in height in Duval County, however, a fence in the front yard of a residential community cannot be more than 4' in height

Has shortening the right panel been suggested? keeps an attractively raised center double gate and requires almost no time/extra effort.

OSO DIY Well since you were the first to notice. I will tell you. I happen to step on a nail into my foot about an inch through the shoe. I went inside cleaned up bandaged it up and then finished the project with my flip-flops because it was tough to get my hurt foot into another shoe. Lol.

I used 3 in decking screws for mine and and worked just as good as the lags so you don’t really need lags it’s just a bit of overkill

  • @AGlimpseInside

I thought about that and I think it will work for the most part however in the long run I think lag screws might be a better option. Although that fence is since been torn down so I guess I’ll never know

just wondering..... how are those posts holding up with the foam used to anchor them? I used the foam myself and found after a month or so that the posts had a bit of wobble.
