In this video, we’re going to talk about how you can lower your cortisol. Cortisol is a destructive stress hormone. It makes a lot of belly fat and can cause problems throughout the body when your levels are too high.
There’s a lot of confusion about this hormone and how to lower cortisol-let me help clear up the confusion.
The adrenal glands are responsible for creating cortisol. Your adrenals are located in your abdomen right on top of your kidneys. The adrenals react to stress. That’s why cortisol is often referred to as the “stress hormone.”
As you age, the hormone that keeps cortisol in check begins to decline. This hormone is called growth hormone (GH). This allows your cortisol levels to skyrocket. The key is to help increase your growth hormone naturally. The best way to do this is to get good sleep or get more sleep.
Insulin-like growth hormone (IGF) is very similar to growth hormone. This hormone can help regulate your cortisol level. You can increase this hormone by fasting and getting plenty of sleep.
Vitamin D and sunlight can also help lower your cortisol levels. You need regular sun exposure to get plenty of vitamin D.
Walking helps reduce your stress levels, which can lower your cortisol. I recommend walking daily.
You can do acupressure to help pull stress out of the body.
And finally, potassium, vitamin B1, and calcium and fantastic nutrients for regulating cortisol.

Avoid taking vitamins because most the food you should be eating should give you those vitamins. Excess vitamins will put more iron in your body and will contribute to you living a shorter life. Harvard professor Dr Sinclair said this.

I am so glad I found your site. I am a retired RN with several years of experience in the ICU and med/surg with the VA system. You are my source for info from now on. I am sad that our doctors nowadays are not spending enough time to educate patients who needed it the most. Most practicing physicians have reduced their practice down to being "pill pushers" to benefit from incentives from drug companies. I have more concerns that even nurses whose primary job is to educate is not doing it either. I had always incorporated "patient education and prevention" during my practice. Healthcare has become so expensive but you are getting less for your money. You are making it simple enough for everyone to understand. I still work per/diem in home health to keep me active and continue to make use of my profession to help people. Keep up the good work!

I just loss my hair thanks to one of those drug/poke pushers. I should have known better not to stress out my already stressed out body with easy "help." They did not inform me of side effects or make sure I should be given what what they pushed. They seem to even go as far as to deny their can be side effects, so sad. Doctors need to humble or they will be humbled by the truth as it starts to come out.

  • @SRose-vp6ew

To defend them I know they have a hard job but science is to question, test, and retest over time. It seems like those things are not even being allowed. Science is not prideful in pushing your bias but a humble seeking of the truth even if it means they may be wrong. I was personally wrong not to question more before putting something into my body that was not natural, or for me, fully needed. I did it because I was told to do it. That's not a good reason.

One more big one that you need to include is the power of gratitude. This had been proven in lots of research -- difficult though, as the gratitude needs to come from others -- when other people thank you, pointing out how much you've helped them, there can be a huge reduction in cortisol, instantly.

Lol you've got that backwords... You're the one that needs to have gratitude from inside and appreciate the positive in your life. Gratitude from others is a selfish expectation you'll often be disappointed and begrudge people who don't give you what you want. Instead give without expectations and be grateful for the opportunity to help someone in their journey. We are all in this earth to help each other learn. I hope that helps you in your journey and no I'm not looking for gratitude. Good luck!

fantastic! I'm on the right track. I had rhabdo a few years ago and I think it was related to cortisol. I'm still trying to piece it together... the doctors saved me and helped immensely, but didn't really explain much to me. But then I fell into depression for about 2 years and honestly tried to just not exist... I realized I needed some kind of shock to fix myself, so I started teaching kids (definitely not my comfort zone). Well, never underestimate the healing power of happy kids. My healing snowballed - first I just wanted to have more energy, but my research led me to quitting meat altogether. Now I've cut out sugar and milk, and I eat as healthy as I can, and work out almost every day. I've rebuilt myself, literally. Always learning more!

Don’t you need higher in morning to get you up? High cortisol isn’t bad unless it’s at the wrong time of day. Low morning cortisol means you drag all morning. Cell phones are stressful!!! Texting, not talking is stressful. Humans need humans to feel like you’re human. Everything has become a reel and texting causes people to get mad, if taken the wrong way. This world has become so negative and opposite from before 2019.

I must comment and say Thank you Dr. Berg for what you are doing. Educating the public. I am one of those who was born in a stressful environment. I've always been a high-strung person but never realized it. I've also had many complications and never could figure out why I would go through the things I would go through. I purchased the adrenal bundle and just started using them. On the first day I was evaluating myself and realized that I was in not stressed. I was calm. I didn't have all these fluttering emotions going through my body all at one time. I felt totally different like it wasn't me. I was dealing with the day's situation in a much more calmer matter. I am truly an amazement. Because I have always believed that I was dealing with things in a normal manner. And that nothing was wrong with me. Because I have always been that way. Thank you thank you thank you. Now I'm on my journey to start my keto challenge. I can't wait to see the results.

This makes so much sense! I live in a northern state, where there is lots of snow and not much sunlight in the wintertime, so I can no longer take walks in the sun. I usually put on 12lbs of "winter weight" during the winter. And of course, all of that weight is in my middle. Once it warms up and I start my walks, the weight and my middle disappear. I knew it was hormonal, plus the fact that I wasn't as active.

About 6 years back I had anxiety on a level I didnt know was possible. I was in absolute terror and shaking uncontrollably and it was constant and lasted many weeks subsiding slightly sometimes but never leaving. Sleep was impossible for more than an hour without waking in a sweat anyway I went to my doc for help and pleaded for something to reduce my cortisol levels. He had no idea what cortisol was... thats what I'm up against. I got prescribed lyrica which made zero difference. In the end valium & zimovane to sleep was all that worked but it took way too long to get them prescribed. It was hell on earth. Cortisol really can wreak havoc when the adrenals are over stimulated.

Hi Justine, my name is Patricia. I know your comment is from one year ago but I really hope you get this message... I've been suffering from severe anxiety and depression for about a year now. I had a 24 hour urine test and turns out that I have very elevated levels of cortisol throughout the entire day. I'm pretty sure the high cortisol levels have a lot to do with my anxiety all day long. Please excuse me for taking so long to get to the point and if you don't mind me asking...how did you finally reduce your cortisol levels and did your anxiety go away? I would really appreciate your response.

A caveat to the environment factor... Sometimes we are unable to remove ourselves from stressful people or stressful situations. The best thing we can do for that is to change the way you think and respond to these things (example is to let your pride go and learn some breathing techniques as well.) I am someone who has a hard time with stressful people, and I've found that it's what's on the inside of me that causes me to react a certain way or get angry. Most (not all) of our anger has its roots in self centeredness (what about ME).

You had me until the end. I can't get rid of my ex-wife or change my circumstances that much because of my divorce. In fact for the past 13 years my divorce, considered a high conflict divorce, has continued two-way on me heavily. Over the past three years I've Incorporated exercise change my eating habits modified my behaviors and a variety of different ways. And general I'm a much better person and closer to the person I can be with that said I know that I'm a stress reactive person by Nature and as a result I have this accumulation of fat stored in my torso and pelvic area. I've done as much as I can but I am willing to try harder and other things that's why I was looking at cortisol. But if I'm to understand what you said I can take all of your advice on how to decrease cortisol but if I can't change my environment or the people around me then I'm just screwed
