I was on metformin for 90 days from September of 22. Since then I went from 285 lbs to 224lbs. By September of 23. I also during this time I set a certain diet for my self. No bread, no sugar, no juices, no soda, that there helped in the weight loss. Not eating big amounts of food. And eating healthy foods. The weight loss will come right back if you do not maintain a strict diet and exercise. This is how i lost my weight after my stent and finding out that I had diabetes. Now I do not have diabetes and I am maintaining my weight without a problem.

It took me about a month after starting the medication to start losing weight, side effects lasted 2 weeks. Now I lost 5 lbs in a week a month later. I'm new to it, and I'm astounded how much fuller I feel after eating a little food. Progress is amazing. Eating so much less in evenings, more energy.

I have been taking Metformin for over 4 months and I am down 52 pounds. But I added exercise and watched my portions also. My A1C has dropped from 8.7 to 5.7 within 3 months. My doctor told me she has never had a patient with that success before in such a short period of time.

Andries: Yes, it is nice that he has the research compiled in a video. I do a lot of research myself whenever I have a medical issue. I have access to all the databases through college libraries. You may have access to these through a public library, or you could visit a college library, and some journal articles (not all) are available free on-line through regular internet searches. Many (not all) medical journal articles are not that difficult for a lay audience to understand. It is impossible to rely completely on doctors. I have eye issues, and most of my specialists spend five minutes tops for my appointments. (Of course, I do have a number of tests before I'm ushered into the room to see them.) I have had to check the indexes/databases to understand what was going wrong and what I could expect for each of my emergencies. Most doctors don't realize all the negative psychological effects lack of knowledge creates: the fear, the worry, the uncertainty. Patients need information and need to play an active role in decision making, whenever possible, instead of remaining in the dark.

Had an A1C this week- 5.7 originally went to doc because of weight gain and ferocious appetite. Started Metformin tonight actually, changing diet to low carb starting tomorrow. I also have an apt tomorrow with the gastroenterologist - first visit tomorrow on my 6 month pre gastric sleeve sx.. VERY informative! On January 5, 2023 i was admitted to hospital sigmoidectomy, they cut part of my large intestine out, at the time i was at 242 pounds,on July 19, 2023 i was admitted at the hospital again with 743 blood sugar level Ac1 was at 9.8, right now September 19, 2023 I'm at 217 pounds, i take metformin hydrochloride 500mg, but im also taking, pioglitazone 30mg, Losartan 50mg and Ozempic once a week, I have type 2 diabetic. Take 2 types of insulin slow acting Glargine and fast acting Lispro. Before this i never knew about carbs, sugars, I heard about diabetes, I never paid attention, I knew diabetic people will inject insulin but never knew what was high or low blood sugar level, or what foods to eat, i guess was something i was not interested to learn or educate myself on that. Now i know how difficult it is dealing with this.

My appetite went down after 2 days but only certain foods. My dr started me on 500mg bid. I have diarrhea but I’ve had diarrhea everyday multiple times a day for more than 5 years, ever since my gall bladder was removed, so it didn’t really matter. Just made it a tiny bit worse. I can’t take phentermine anymore because I developed sinus tachycardia, I gained over 130lbs in the last few years, and I’m already on Wellbutrin and topamax. If this doesn’t work ( with a changed diet and increase in exercise) I’m gonna have to get gastric sleeve surgery or something. (I did however lose 35 lbs during this lockdown somehow?) Being so heavy is causing me so many health problems at this point. Anyway this video was helpful thanks.

I recently started Metformin for PCOS. I was put on 2000mg of Metformin last winter to deal with weight gain from antipsychotic medication. I had gone from 105 lbs to 115lbs in one month. The Metformin allowed me to maintain my weight for six months, until I no longer needed the Seroquel. I came off both medications and within 8 weeks, gained more 20 lbs. I dropped to an 800k daily diet with 18/6 fasting and no alcohol, no sugar one month ago and I still gained 2.5 lbs a week on the regimen. I tested high on testosterone (6) and DHEA (460) and a fasting blood sugar of 95 (after a 14 hour fast). My 10 year average fasting BS was 55-60 before this. I'm not sure if the Seroquel caused issues or I've always had PCOS, but after restarting Metformin, a week ago, I've already lost 5 lbs. I'm looking forward to eating more than 800 calories, but I'm so happy something is finally stopping the weight gain. Most people think 20 lbs is not a big deal but if you are short and petite--that's a 20% gain. Your information has really helped explain things. I'm still confused on the protein, healthy fat, healthy carb debate--but for now my focus is on eating real food, prepared at home, a balance of each.

I agree with John L. (I usually do - he's very well informed.) Also, there is a key issue about low carbs diets; they do NOT result in ghrelin swings like carbs do. kzread.info/dash/bejne/c2iG2JenYrixdrA.html Got to the 5 minute mark. get carbs out of your diet and the ghrelin spikes go away. Most people aren't aware of this. I'm thinking about doing a video specifically on this.

I have a few questions sir. I just got diagnosed as diabetic by my doc after many years being a pre diabetic. I've been on metformin 500 twice a day for the last 10 days since I've started. Can I eat the metformin with all my other meds in the morning and evening without carrying it around with me to have it with meals whenever I'm outside for hours? Don't like carrying my meds everywhere! But I'm not seeing any side effects. Sometimes I have to take it empty stomach due to my work schedule early mornings. I work out in the gym weight training as well as walk 45 mins in the night also. Can I continue to live on Metformin 500 effectively all throughout or the body over the course of age and time only makes the diabetes get worse irrespective? Please do let me know on these questions. Will I need to progress on to later injections of insulin? Is there any way I can manage healthily and stay all my life on metformin?

Metformin, when it impacts weight loss, usually takes a few months. You usually forget about it. Then you notice a few months later that you're lighter. The standard dose in 1000 mg twice daily. But most of my patients take about half that.
