Haven't used my laptop in years. I struggled a bit at first, but then I caught on, followed all of the steps, and was able to successfully get back into my laptop. Thanks so, so much!!! Now that I've done this, can I just make a new password ?

You are an absolute boss. I had seen other people mention how you could get a cmd prompt by renaming cmd to utilman, but no one else laid out specifically how to get into the file system while logged out to actually do so!

It worked for me, good clear and Simple instructions

Hi. I clicked on the little red arrow and a huge black "Recovery Manager" screen popped up (covering the screen I was working on), with 3 options "I need help immediately", "I'd like to identify and problems" & "I'd like to take precautions". The only other option that I have is to 'X' out which states "Do you want to exit Recovery Manager and reboot?"... gives me 2 options "OK" or "Cancel" The "I need help immediately" has 3 sub-topics Microsoft System Restore, Microsoft Startup Repair Tool & System recovery. Any ideas?

Hi Ali, I followed your instruction and it worked all the way untill opening CMD file in the windows login screen. I typed in net user (enter) and it showed all the users. After that I typed in net user (enter) and It gave me info about the username, but not the option to reset my password.. What to do?

at 3rd atep, during the process of start up repair recommended, when the option appears restore or cancel , at this point the keyboard and also mouse not working as the system hangs. I tried many times but every time this situation arises. How could I complete the process ? please answer why system hangs or I'm unable to operate my system from keyboard or mouse during the repair process.
