This is hilarious. They keep making the sign in options more and more difficult for ordinary users (they should just allow the user to reset their password in a domestic context i.e. Windows home edition), but you can also easily bypass it by renaming a system file through their own dialogues. Nice workaround, thanks for uploading.

My old HP laptop may be running Windows 9. Your procedure, in this video work up to the point where I select System Image. Then it wants my Password! I cannot follow the rest of your good instructions. They offer a System Restore box, but it also redirects to a sign in box.

This does not appear to work on W10. When I click on the "System Image Recovery" button, instead of the WE window shown in the video, I get a "Reset User" and then enter the password for this user. Since I don't know the password, I can't get past this?????????????????????????

Not working, under System Image Recovery page, it shows to choose an account to continue also it has "Forgot your password or don't see your account?" at the bottom of the page. when click User 1, it leads me back to enter the password for this account. when click Forgot password, it gives me an option to restart which leads back to sign on screen again.

You forgot to mention that you need to undo the steps again back to original state after the fix. You must delete the file you've created for CMD and rename the utilman again to its original name. If you don't do this you cannot access to command prompt window ever again and anyone seeing your video won't know that until it's to late

Thank you for your great help man! I had seen other videos on KZread where they require the use of a Windows bootable USB which makes it more cumbersome to achieve this task. When trying to change the Utilman12 and cmd files back to their original names (while signed in to the local Admin account) it gives me a permission error and it won't let me rename it. Nonetheless I figured out that cmd is still accessible while signed in, from the Run option if instead you type utilman. The only thing that changes is the name but the command prompt utility is still available 🙂and in my case since I did this for my daugther's laptop, it's a good idea to keep the cmd option available when the computer is locked just in case she or I forget the pw again.

When I go to System32 there are only folders, and I'm not seeing Utilman. I tried having it show hidden items ,but I'm still not seeing the file. Any suggestions?

Man thank you You helped me get my stuff back FYI this works on windows server 2022, 2023 and 2016. So if you forgot the password on your server and its running windows server and such you can reset it using the same methods

I could not find the "utilman" file as you have shewn in your video. I suppose it is because the "Files of type" parameter under the File name it set to find only that kind of file. And I do not know to change that in order to find the files I need to apply your instructions.

type "*.*" in the file name field ... that will show all the files regardless of the file type setting

Looks like Microsoft bitlocker has my Security Key and drive is locked. Cant find the Microsoft account that is tied to this laptop. When i look Microsoft accout key up it gives me one of the other PC's i have.

I can logged in to my computer ,unfortunately, when i give my google account password or log in password nothing works. So, i couldn't go to the next step of any solution of automatic repair. I tried with the safe mode with command prompt and it says windows have some corrupted files that couldn't be fixed.
