Worked on my 7 year old computer running windows 7. Got my files back. Thank you! Actually, the first portion didn't work for me. I downloaded an iso of Kali linux and a program named "etcher". Used Etcher to make a bootable flash drive for Kali linux with ease. The old PC boot right up with that flash drive and it gave me full access to the files in the win32 directly. (First time I used Linux actually. Pretty Cool!) I renamed the 2 files with ease and the rest was as you described. The command line interface worked like a charm.

This says without usb/floppy disc. You have to have those for “forgot password” doesn’t work

Thanks!.... I want to mention something here... I couldn't access the files the way you did in the video because my screen "where the magic happens" was different. They must have removed that option as a security measure so what I did was a workaround. I used a "Mini XP" boot CD which allowed me to access the system 32 files and then change the file names around. Once this was accomplished everything else worked as you outlined it in the steps to change the password. Once again, thank you.

Phenomenal!! This works thank you. Super easy and digestible. You're doing a great job at making other people's lives easier!

IMPORTANT DETAIL: Your computer must be connected to the internet via a network cable before launching the Startup Repair process. If your computer is not connected to the internet, the "Send information" window, visible at 1:14, will not pop-up at the end of the repair process, and you will not be able to click "View problem details" button and this method will not work. PS: I have not tested whether internet connection via WiFi will work. I can only confirm that it works via cable.

Hi, im really bad at technology so forgeting my password it was a trauma for me since i was unable to get any help from anywhere. SO this video was recommanded to me by a friend( Thank you Aryan) . I saw it many times untill i learned the steps, i even write then down to make sure im not skipping anything. And it worked. It took me more than one hour cause i wasnt sure what i was doing and made some mistakes( that bad i am) but at the end with a bit of helpfrom another friend(thank you Vish) on typing the last 2 commands i succeded. Everything worked but when I went to change"cmd' and "utilman" back I get a box saying you need permission to perform and I am the admin

For those who cannot see C: in recovery mode: * restart and press F2 to open BIOS (or F10 or F11) * in System Configuration / SATA operation, deselect RAID (for HICP for instance) * apply changes * reboot in recovery mode and follows the video instructions in recovery mode * when rebooting normally to reach the login screen, press F2 again to enter BIOS, enable RAID again, apply changes and carry on with booting * follow the rest of the instructions Btw, don’t forget to rename cmd.exe back to normal when you’re finished.

I need your guidance is it my previous step wrong? When I at the cmd page, after I key in the net user text and press enter and it close the cmd.

My old HP didn't allow the full path, but the reset during boot got me into the HP fixit screens. One of the options was a command prompt, which allowed me to make the file-name swap, then to complete the process. Thanks! Carl

Hello, I'm trying to access my Toshiba Satellite, window 7 laptop. I forgot the password and appear to have locked the system as I can no longer switch users either. I have managed to get to the Startup Repair Window, but the error message that should display "veiw problem details" drop down menu / link doesn't show up on the screen, no matter how long I wait. How do i get to this screen? 'View diagnostic and repair details' - only gives me information in a window, not a notepad 'View advanced options for system recovery and support' - asks for the original password, which i don't know. Thank you.

Got the problem with cmd console - when I click the button in the corner, it starts but its empty and I can't type anything inside,

Still works! Got into my sister old laptop she was super thankful! Only thing I would add was that her profile name was different then the one showed after start up. I had to net user and find the different ones.

Every time I hit cancel on “do you want to restore”, it gets stuck on “attempting repairs”
