How to Load Up on Catfish Bait Trolling Tiny Crankbaits

Спорт

I had originally planned to do a video with some livescope coverage of locating / catching bait with worms, but unfortunately, I left the worms in car overnight the other week and they all turned to goo...
So, always have a plan B! And this video shows how I catch bait trolling with crankbaits. This is a really effective way to load-up on white perch and crappie late spring through fall. I really like the 220 series Arkie Lures Crappie Crankbaits, which you can buy at Walmart for about $2.40 each. On Jordan Lake, my favorite colors are Sexee Shad, followed by Chrome with Black Back. I'll troll them 50-150 feet behind my kayak, between 1.5 - 1.8 mph. Sometimes, when I go over schools of fish, I'll end-up with 2-3 hook-ups at once.

Do you prefer crappie or perch for catfish?

It depends on the body of water. Usually, when I fish someplace new, I try to bring 2-3 different types of fresh baits to try out. I have found that catfish can / do have a preference. For example, on Kerr Lake, white perch works well for me. On Badin, all of my biggest catfish there have been caught on crappie heads. Some guides only fish shad for bait. I guess bottom line, experiment until you find what works best for you.
