The Fall Shallow Water Crappie Bite at Jordan Lake was on FIRE!!!

Спорт

I spent a few hours yesterday on Jordan Lake, fishing the fall crappie bite. The last few times I've been out, they've been stacked up on structure and I've been able to catch them in water as shallow as 4 feet. After initially getting a few fish bottom bouncing minnows and with a jig, I still wasn't happy with the slow bite and decided to try something different. I pulled the jig body off and tipped my 1/8 oz gold jig head with a minnow and it was a night and day difference in the bite! After locating a school suspended around a big rock, I began pulling them in one after another... will definitely be trying that technique again in future trips!
Another item to note is that I was using a 7'6" ultralight Bass Pro AirStream rod for a lot of those fish. I originally purchased it last year to allow me to fish very light jigs against the pilings in the winter. I don't really like to use crappie rods in the kayak (it's very hard to guide the fish into a short handled net with a 9'-10' rod...) but that length offers a nice blend of sensitivity and flexibility while still being manageable from a kayak. I think I lost a lot less fish that I have with some of the heavier outfits that I've used, so I'll probably be sticking to ultralight combos for vertical and jigging presentations in the future.

Thanks! The fish have probably started to migrate away from the shallows now. I’m waiting on a replacement display from Garmin (mine died after that video). If you see me out on Jordan sometime in my orange Autopilot, stop by and say hi!

Great video, hoping they are still biting tomorrow. Heard it’s been good at Harris too.

I’m moving closer to Harris in December, so I’ll probably be spending a lot more time fishing there in the next year. I think it’s an excellent crappie fishery that could rival Jordan Lake

Thanks. I think they’re still pretty shallow and really haven’t started migrating to deeper water yet. The majority of those fish in the video were in 6 feet of water or shallower around structure (rocks). And they were nice fish… I think only 2-3 crappie I caught were under 10”… I was surprised how many big fish were stacked up in such skinny water, but I guess it’s more common than I initially realized.

I found the sweet spot to be 10 feet yesterday and caught nothing in deeper water. They were all good sized fish, all over 10 inches.

Were the ones you were catching around any structure? Most of the ones in the video were schooled up around a large rock, which you can see on the livescope

Caught some near stumps and others about 50 yards away. Did not seem to be concentrated.@@kayak_chris

@@kenshamrock7395 I think shallow water structure right now seems to be the ticket
