I lifted my forester by 46mm: 40mm long nuts + 2x3mm washers, without disassembling, I tightened the springs with a belt. Tops Washers & Bolts 13mm

I recently swapped out the studs on my rear struts for longer ones on 97 legacy Outback. It's really easy to get old ones out. Take the tophat off, find a socket a lil bit bigger than the head of stud to brace the tophat from bending. Hit it hard with a hammer and it will fall right into the socket. I used 2" grade 8 bolts size M8x1.25

Thanks Dirt Cheap Daily. Over 2' inches would require additional spacers between the carriage and more strain on the drive axle like you had mentioned. Very helpful video. I was trying to decide 3' or 6' inches and now I'm confident about the 2' inch lift significance. Thanks bro

I'm planning on lifting my 2013 Impreza with forester struts. I was also thinking of pulling the trailing arms off a forester or an outback to help with the rear axle angles, do you think I should pull the sub frame spacers as well?

Probably should of used grade 5 or 8 bolts. I wouldn't let my wife drive that with non graded bolts holding the suspension in.

Hey man I love your videos. Im trying to do a lift on a 1990 Subaru Justy what struts do you recommend?

Good video, a little long but a lot of good info! I've seen people make HDPE by melting milk jugs and similar stuff they'd normally recycle. Would that work for this application?

Before installing all the spacers you should have loosen all the bushings first (front and rear arm bushings). After finishing the work itself you put the car on the ground, and only then you fasten all those bushings. That is because all your bushings now are under tension, and they're gotta get worn out much faster. But one question. How do you cure the front wheels' castor?

How did you handle the rear subframe hitting the exhaust pipe?

For a 2inch lift do I need camber bolt to fix the geometry? And how long do u think the CV axles will last with a 2inch lift?

What fo you do about the opening created above the strut to the body? Seems like water will come through there and into the trunk area.

I have an 01 outback. Whats my cheapest junk yard route to get some lift on it? I.e another suspension from a different model perhaps? Or other ifs car?.

You forgot the easiest and usually cheapest way to lift the gen 2 outbacks, 04-06 Subaru Baja coil springs will give you 1"+ over stock coils and they are really stiff too (less than $200 for OEM at dealer new). I did this with 1" blocks/strut spacers from gorilla off road company, and sitting on general grabbers at2 in 215/65r16. Alignment with factory parts is just doable and no rubbing issues! Both front axle boots ripped after first 1k miles but going 24k strong since without replacing anything and I can go play in the woods just about anywhere!

Subie Pit 603 y go baja coil springs when jus use entire strut and spring from forrester or even legacy. Baja use tge 4 point linkage in the rear as well i believe. As my dream vehicle would be a baja but made more like older gens. Switch the top hots out and bolt right in my 98 obs. Did front b4 could get 2nd set for rear. Car did wanna oversteer a lil but when replaced rear so all 4 sat equal again handled the road as good as ever. Also with any lift dude forgot to mention the potential need of messing with brake lines etc. Seen a few kits that have longer linkage for the newer subarus. And also as my impreza i lifted woth forrester struts, it sets where the rear tire rests in the wheel well. (The gap of the fender to tire). On another note. I need to figure best way to roll or trim my fenders to get me some of those general grabbers or some beefier lookin tire on. Right now runnin stock aluminum legacy rims with i think 225s or 215s. Ide like to get more side wall height. And he is right about lift being addicting. And it REALLY is awesome when at a gas station a stranger drives around the place jus to come to u and ask if ur impreza is lifter 😁😁

Hey can i lift my subaru impreza struts from forester 2 inches spacers and arm spacers? Please help

I have a '05 forester and I've got lights, skidplate, and at tires and I want to do a two inch lift myself, I was reading on some forums of people suggesting not to stack spacers because they would flex and slide like a deck of cards. I was wondering what your thoughts on that were and if you had any tips for making homemade trailing arm spacers. Thanks, love your videos

+Joseph Boland I've never had issue with sliding spacers. I think that's just people overthinking things. If they're torqued correctly, there's going to be enough pressure and friction that they Warner going anywhere. Not that they have anteaters to go since they're pegged with your bolts

+Joseph Boland as far as trailing arm spacers, you can do those out of hdpe as well. On my forester though, I just cut the forward fender well to make room

I have a 07 Forester I want to do a lift but I'm worried that lifting it will mess up the swap bars and stuff. I'm looking to do a 2 inch spacer lift, and a 2 inch trailing arm spacer.

+Ian Downes as long as you have a stock sway bar, it should reconnect just fine. Otherwise you can get longer sway bar links pretty easily.

I would recommend replacing that power steering rack boot before the seals go bad.

Would Forester struts on an Impreza be hard on the cv-joints?

+jds7777's creations no. Forester struts are about 1.5" difference. So they're safe. If you did spacers on top of them, you'd start to have problems

+Dylan Cook Anderson design builds them. Sjr might still, although I think he doesn't anymore. You can also make them using the current subframe spacers as templates.

+Josiah H depends on how much bigger you get over stock. It's noticeable, but with a manual trans it wasn't that big of a deal. Even with an automatic it isn't that bad.

I would really like to drive a H6 WRX. Everyone that I've talked to that's driven one says that they're alot of fun because they're so much more torquey. I'm a big fan of Marty's Super Gramps, but who isn't? I like seeing never before attempted things like that. Imagine how much fun that car would be if he could find some forged internals for that 3.6. It'd be like a 911 wagon.

+gc8 wrc 235/60/16 is the same diameter as a 215/70/16, which is what is on mine. I was running those tires without the lift and didn't rub.

Wesley Bortnick that won't fit, it's either wide and shorter sidewall or tall and skinny, unless you're willing to modify wheel wheels, and/or a lower offset wheel will help some. I run 215/65r16 grabbers at2 on stock vdc wheels with 06 Baja coils and 1" blocks, works perfect

So you dont really mention anywhere, at least not that i could tell, if the trailing arm spacer is required. I have a 2001 Subaru Forester L that I am wanting to raise 2" on both the front and the rear, would this require me to make a trailing arm spacer as well?

+Gaming Gyro good call. That's something I always forget about because I didn't run them on my forester. I cut out the rear wheel wells to get more flex without rubbing with a loaded rear hatch. Depending on how big of tires you're wanting, you'll most likely want to run trailing arm spacers.

So I actually just bought brand new all season tires for my forester ( They are great for off roading as well as on the roads!), and i don't have money for other ones, so Im probably just going to keep the wheels stock for at least the life span of the tires, so ill probably just lift it and then if i want bigger tires ill install the trailing arm spacer or trim up the wheel wells. +skarlos23 you'll probably rub in the front a bit. It really depends on your wheel offset. Most likely you'll need around 1"-1.5"

Aaron, I believe increasing the tires' diameter will - without doubt - reduce its actual torque at the shat, diminishing the vehicle's velocity, hence the output HP will suffer. Have you noticed any changes? Have you done anything to protect the under carriage (CV shafts, oil pan, engine transmission?) I will be making a construction out of re-bars, from the front to the engine's cross member. Again, augmenting the lift, will put stress on the CV shafts and their torsion angle, incrementing the tires camber. This may have an effect in the vehicle's stability on corners. Is it worth? +johnathan smith yup. You definitely change the hearing when you put oversized tires on, just like with any application. Like I say in the video, it's noticeable but how much it impacts the drivability depends on how much bigger you put on. You'll obviously want to get it realigned after the lift, just like with any other suspension modifications. And again, just like I say in the video, as long as you don't go over 2" with just strut top spacers, you won't have binding issues with your cv's.

Low grade bolts on suspension components and nothing supporting them to boot. Can you say Death Trap?

Thanks so I knew someone already said it. I would never try this, and I hope no one else will! No short cuts for me, I got a proper 2 inch lift kit from Subieliftoz when I was visiting my Bro in Australia. That kit will be great for my 2014 XT Forester here in Sweden 👌

because who wouldn't want to give their wife a couple extra inches? haha. I'm glad you mentioned Forester struts and springs on Imprezas. I understand that also gives more spring perch clearance for bigger tires compared to Impreza struts. Also for anyone wondering, the subframe spacers from Foresters can also be used on Imprezas of the right age. I'm talking mostly about pre-07 Imprezas. It's well detailed on the forums, though. Good video, though, even with the technical difficulties. One question about bigger tires on Imprezas and Foresters- how do the larger (28"-30") tires affect acceleration?

+cafn8ed74 acceleration is slightly noticeable, but I wouldn't say it makes enough difference to outweigh the perks of big tires. Plus, you get better gas mileage on the freeway

Man appreciate the video but those bolts are dangerous! You need to upgrade to grade 8 ones.

I know you mentioned 2" spacers ... I have a 2000 Outback... So a 2" is the most you'd recommend (: I'm clueless my first time owning a Subaru and first time getting into lifting

@@Dirtcheapdaily after doing more research, i've come to that same conclusion... i found out some people use the O4 FORESTER shocks/springs fit onto my 2000 outback.. they'll give it a 1inch lift and get rid of the saggy butt, and also with the stronger spring rating, it'll give it more comfortable ride... what are your thoughts on this.. i'm really sorry for the noob questions, but i'm trying to learn and asking as many enthusiasts as possible

those look like grade 2 or unrated bolts. 3/8 grade 2 are proofed at4250 lbs. Grade 8 at 9300 lbs. not safe.

+in motion these are grade 6 bolts, the strongest I can get locally in metric. No issues with them in 10,000 miles

Not saying anything bad about Subaru. I do like them! I just don't understand why pitch a ton of money into them to get it "truly off road capable?" Go buy a Jeep put mud tires on it and be done lol

Would highly recommend not doing this, I've been through $1000s trying to fix the damage that doing this caused. I did everything in this video and more to ensure it was a good install, but you have to drop the diff and be really careful with the spacers your choose. I've had to fix CV boots, top mount bearings, sway bar links, the whole works.

You must add a warning in the beginning of the video. No offence but you are instructing a very unsafe modification. Those bolts are absolutely not cut out for the job you have applied them. For legal reason I would put a disclaimer if I were you.
