How To Level A Tacoma

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Leveling a 3rd Gen Toyota Tacoma is a simple way to make the vehicle look more visually appealing. There is something about lifting the front end and making level with the rear that balances the truck out. This kit is simple to install, and doesn't take any specialty tools.

If you undo the two bolts at the bottom of the Spindle (instead of the ball joint at the top) you don’t have to undo the abs and brake lines from the spindle or the sway bar. A lot easier

Your videos are always so good! Really appreciate your thoroughness, and the camera angles are spot on. For this lift and the lift you did on the 2nd gen (both look sick), you didn’t mention taco lean. Is the whole 1/4” front-driver side spacer not necessary in your opinion? Keep up the great work!

To be honest I haven't really noticed my truck leaning, haha. That's not to say it doesn't lean. I guess you could add a thin spacer to equal it out.

I noticed you didn’t install a DIFF-DROP. I have a GEN 2 and I think my driveshaft is humming because the shop didn’t install or recommend a DIFF-DROP. I suspected the vibration coming from a wheel bearing, but after further inspection, everything seems tight.

Couple of questions..... The fender opening is the same size as before the lift and the wheel still goes up and down. This increased clearance, how? Was anything included in the kit to space the bump stop down to prevent the strut from bottoming out? Were the control arm bushings loosened at ride height and retorqued to prevent them from being under tension all the time? Were you able to align the truck to stock specs with the stock upper control arms?

Hey Ron, All great questions! The overall answer is that I am not going to be keeping this kit. I am going to get a suspension lift very soon. A) I had 33's on my truck and it was hitting my body mount. By adding these spacers it pushed the center point of the tire downwards to allow me to clear the body mount while I am driving on the road. If I am turned and my truck is articulated then yes I still might hit the body mount. I guess the main thing is that my scrub radius has moved downwards to allow me to drive more comfortable. If you're planning on off-roading your vehicle often you should probably do a body mount chop or relocation as well. (this will be in the near future for me) B) No, The front you should get new bump stops or a spacer for them. but in the rear nothing really changed and the stop bump stop should still work. C) No I did not touch the Upper or Lower control arm bushings. I do not think they are under much stress since there is no weight of the tire and no major forces on them since the coil-over is out of the vehicle. Move to D D) As soon as the lift was installed I took the truck to get a professional alignment, to help the bushings and save my tires. The alignment was able to get the truck back to stock but I do need to get upgraded UCA made for a 3" lift. I have since gotten them and had the truck re-aligned and the truck is back to spec and drives great. What's next... I am going to go to a suspension lift very soon because I do plan on using this truck off-road and not as a mall crawler. I am probably going to get the same lift as we installed on the 2nd Gen Tacoma (kzread.info/dash/bejne/dWp9ztGAdd3Ves4.html) to start and maybe upgrade from there. I will also be timing my fenders and doing a body mount relocation for the front. In the rear, I will most likely go with some heavy-duty springs and new shock mounts.

How thick are those front spacers ? I have a 2016 tacoma i have icons right now but before that i had a spacer like your but mine was 1 1/2” thick and it gave me a 3” lift it cleared my 33” tires . . The spacer you have looks thicker and you said you didnt get a 3” lift out of it ?

You said the front only lifted 2 1/2”, When you measured the front you said it was 36”, if you look close it is actually 35 1/2”. Maybe that is the extra half inch. Also, it didn’t look like your leaf spring spacers were tapered. Did they have a taper? How is the ride after the lift?

I just put a 3" front and 2" rear leveling kit on my 2017 Tacoma. After doing that, I've got a clunk going on at take off...well slightly delayed but pretty close to take off...what can it be? Sway bar bushing? Loose 2 piece drive shaft?? I have no idea, but it's driving me crazy.

@@codymcmichael2702 I also installed a similar leveling kit on my 2nd gen tacoma.( 3 in front and 2 inch in the back. )I haven't noticed any cluncks yet at takeoff. But Ive had to replace both my cv axles too many times. was c e times. I was told just recently that if I install a diff drop then perhaps my cv boots might stop ripping. It Levels the axles a little bit and prevents the rubber steps of the bots to rub on each other. I'm only regurgitating what othes have experienced to have worked for them and I'm willing to give it a try if it helps prevents the rubber boots from tearing after a year of normal street driving. I'll chime back in once I have tested them out.thanks and hope it helps out!
