    Loved making this hat. I used the yarn suggested and skipped a row or two and just had enough yarn to make the size medium hat. However my gauge was just a bit smaller so to keep room for all my hair I only stitched up about 3/4 of the back and left the bottom open for a pony tail and added a “strap (I just crocheted one with the yarn attached on one side) and buttons to fasten under my hair. It turned out great! I also used blanket yarn to make a second hat. I didn’t do the roll up the rim with this yarn, but it kept its shape on its own. Thanks for the fun pattern.

    Marly, I love, love, love this hat. Do you think that this hat can be done on the all-in-one loom w/the 5 extra side pegs. Or will I be better off doing this as a flat panel? Thx.ps. I can’t regular knit for my life. Believe me I tried. I love the videos w/ur mom.

    I'm going to do it on the loom in the round because I love this cast on edge. I don't use the AIO loom, so I will probably do it on the 5/8" gauge round. There isn't any reason to make it in a flat panel.

    If I wanted to use a lighter weight yarn, such as a #5 bulky vs a #6, how many stitches should I cast on?

  • @MarlyBird

    @MarlyBird

    6 жыл бұрын

    You would just need to find out what the gauge for stitches per inch is of your new yarn and then multiply that by the circumference of the hat you want to make :) Use a number divisible by 4 and the crown shaping instructions will work.

    If you’re having trouble, do a practice piece with 15 stitches and instead of just 3 rows, to do it with 5 rows of stockinette stitch before you do the ktogether with the cast on row. That might help give you a little more fabric to work with. Sometimes it helps to practice with a different color cast on...then you will easily see the stitches on the needle vs the stitch you’re working into on the cast on row. Once you so a practice piece and get the hang of it, try it on the hat again with the 3 rows...or if you prefer the look of it with the 5 rows you could do that :) Let me know if you’re still having trouble. I will help as much as I can.

  • @darialay3472

    Thank you for that! I did restart the row - very very slowly. Once I finally realized (because I'm blonde) that you were going behind the stitch, it began to work better. It's still quite tight and very hard to complete, but slow and steady is working. I do like the way it is coming out. =)

    You could knit in the round, of course :) I chose not to so that I didn’t have to do garter stitch in the round (which means more knit 1 round, purl 1 round), and to make it so a newer knitter didn’t have to use double pointed needles.

This is the cast on i have been searching for so of course the sound goes out at the beginning of the technique. ....sigh. ...😕 i will add this to my watch later and i will check back in a week. If this is an important step im not wasting my time trying to learn a technique until i know the step. After the weeks i have had i dont need more confusion. I will wait to watch the full video until im sure.
