    dude holy shit I applied this tip during a my sesh tonight and I'm fucking flipping it so easy! I actually almost teared up how much time I struggled with trying to understand the flick all I fucking needed to do was open up my hip a bit and it feels like it just flicks on its own. You're a fucking legend and hero dude

    i always tell beginners to think that they are kickflipping with their knee, not their feet and that somehow usually works, (leading with your knee forward of your nose)

    2:30 You also need to add the force the nose of the skate is making when rising, so the force you have to employ is for example 502g (from the foot for the rotation) plus the Relative Force that the board is projecting while going up.

    So great. Thank you! One idea i had the other day: i would love to see your analysis of truck geometry and how that impacts skating. People only seem to talk about the wheelbase difference of thunder vs Ace, etc, but are the kingpins or pivots at different degrees of angle? If so, how does that affect turning?

  • @Lxwlife

    @Lxwlife

    2 ай бұрын

    This video actually provides a lot of insight into Luan Oliveira's kickflips already. I was watching Luan's art of the kickflip video, and Luan does kickflips exactly how whythetrick explains them here (as do most people), EXCEPT Luan's board slightly rotates in the air which is the exact result of what is shown here at 4:39 regarding closed knees. This is really interesting though because Luan does open up his knees like whythetrick suggests, but Luan still likes to extend his lower leg regardless causing the board to spin slightly. It seems like a style choice, or comfort choice, because it doesn't seem to actually make the flick any better than not extending the lower leg since Luan does it so late into the flick.

  • @GuitarraErudita

    @GuitarraErudita

    @@Lxwlife Ty vm for the awenser! As a brazilian skater and I'm a bit older than Luan I can virtually guarantee this is a stile choice, we brazilians consider stile as: speed + high pop + catch the trick before land. Luan is a god at those 3 stuff. And he intentionally make it looks like a dragonflying kick!

    What I don’t understand is how my shoulders and hips are square to the board and it turns, yet your shoulders are completely open, almost perpendicular to the board yet it still flops straight

  • @robertgilfillan3221
    @robertgilfillan32212 ай бұрын

    looks like your back foot toe is hanging off possibly adding to a more pressure flip-ish scoop. You might find a little more snap on the tail if you don't hang off your toe too much. You can counter balance that change by hanging your weight over your back knee more when you load so that you're not falling backward. Not a pro like you, just something I've been messing with recently.

    Lately I’ve been wondering why no one talks about the crouch in kickflip. It seems like it should be important yet I’m not sure if I know what is best practice. I see some pros squeezing their knees together when they crouch and others skew the knees in odd ways.

  • @whythetrick

    Thanks for the comment. Knee angles when crouched largely depneds on the stiffness of their ankles. Kindly refer to this if interested. kzread.info/dash/bejne/n4qDspSYe5u8dNI.html

    I think I'm going to give up on skateboarding... I'm trying to do a straight kickflip, but it always turns into a kind of backside flip (Angled). I've watched all your videos about the kickflip, but I can't understand why my kickflips are turning into backside flips. When I try, it doesn't seem like before when I used to land them; sometimes it does a Hospital Flip but it's probably because of my tired foot. I don't know what else to do.
