How To Kayak - Introduction to Boat Placement

In each kayaker's progression, there will be ups and downs. Sometimes the plateaus can be discouraging and frustrating. In this week's video, I discuss a different way to approach your kayaking. Boat Placement. This seemingly self explanatory concept is often the last thing on a paddler's mind in the middle of a rapid. However, it can, alone, determine success or failure in a rapid or river. I discuss how changing our focus while paddling will give us both the proper motivation to keep training, but also the mindset to get through difficult water without reverting to survival mode. come along as we discuss boat placement. Along the way, there are some first combat rolls, first rock spins, first 360 surfs, and many other fantastic moments! Amie, Jerry, Adam, Grant, Austin, Kevin and I had a great time making this one!
We were kayaking the Haw River NC - Glencoe to Redslide at 12' and at 7'.

Just wanted to throw a thumbs up to Justin for that roll. I ask him if he ever thought about golf,,, playing of course. But through determination and grit he tasted real ("good times") "very good times" way to go guys. Thanks for the shares. Pete way to go with helping him all the way to the finish line.

I am starting the journey of white water kayaking and I hope to find an instructor half as good as you. My goal is to be as good as your students someday.

Ahhhhh. By boat placement you mean not pinned on a couple rocks or hung up across a half sunken tree . Great job guys. That water looked cold

So I'm still waiting on my stinger xp from last years order. I'm told I'll have it in April this year. So I've slowly purchased some gear in preparation. Still in need of a skirt. Considering the rivers I'll be starting on will range from a class I to the very occasional class III. I was thinking up starting with a bungee skirt until I'm more confident in my roll and move to a rand skirt for the larger rivers later. I've run these rivers before on my SOT, but I feel it's going to be learning all over again with this boat.

Oustanding video as always Pete! This year I want to expand my tool set and knowledge, which means I need to paddle with more experienced paddlers or take some classes. I just picked up a Remix 69 so I want to try to get some light WW practice in and learn to roll too.

Awesome job! enjoyed it. Def. not cool and rude of the dude who locked the gate on y'all! Seriously bad attitude. When he saw y'all then he should have at least asked y'all how much longer you guys were going to be and if everything is alright or if y'all needed help?! Usually people have a reason for running a lil behind, he should have checked on you guys. But as always great video and tons of great info... try to not get yourself locked up again bro LOL. Thanks for sharing

Great video Pete. How do you keep your lense so clear. I had a go over the weekend of doing a video and it was just water blob after water blob. Any tips?
