how to jump with fabien barel
Спорт
jumping is not a technic that is crucial to all MTN riding. But once you picked it up, you will be able to find a different flow to the trail and play even more with the terrain. As most of the technic, you vision will be to pick a nice landing and accelerate the bike.

Great vid!! So many of us have jumped for years and just don't think about it but after a big stack we need to go back to basics and have clear instructions.. I'm 2months into a 6month recover after a 15m jump gone wrong.. just starting on some 2-3m doubles again to build my confidence back up plus looking at some great tutorials! Big stacks are a humbling experience and it's great to have people dedicating time and effort to show us what to remember in the air. Thanks!!
Thanks Fabien. These vids are really well put together and the techniques are clearly explained. I have been watching them for the last 6 months while working on the techniques and it has brought my riding to a whole new level. Thank you sir!!
He's speaking English so everyone can understand. He's trying his best. If a genie said I can ride like Fabien but would also speak English like him, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
I had a go with this on the trail today, seems to make a big difference and make for a safer jump (less feet coming off pedals in air) - thanks for the video.
Re-watching this series after so many years, I realize that Fabien was not talking to beginners. His demos and tips will turn medium/advanced riders into pros. Just look how technical the terrain is. Loose surface. Tight corner. Angled landing. Broken lips on the takeoff. F...ing next level stuff.
Hey, my wife and I aren't "spring chickens" (age 60+) but we study Fabien's instructional videos and have improved because of them. So....Thanks!
I love the way people do these videos and make it looks so easy and seemless :D
Fabien has too much style that it just seems natural for him to do whips when he does jumps. Beginners are gonna watch this video and try it and crash.

Yup. For an instructional video he should of just completed the jump as simple as possible.

Yeah, if he was going to add style to it, put it into another video

Small Frie 7 When did I ever say I was good? You have some serious reading comprehension problems my friend
Probably the smoothest rider I've ever seen!!
ive had the same experience, best trick i found is to either pinch your seat with your knees/calves, or pinch the cranks with the inside of your feet. or what i did is i went and bought bmx shoes, and mountain bike clip-less pedals clipless allow your feet to still be connected to the pedal in the air, but yet at the same time allow you to quickly remove your shoe from the pedal in the invent that you might have to jump off. theres no clipping in so you pretty much cant stay glued to bike
Very cool, thanks Fabs.
Beautiful video!
Awesome technique !!!
Good Instructional video!
fucker makes it look so easy. Oh just like that Fabian? just like that?
For those making fun of his accent, you do know your watching this because you can't do a small dirt jump whereas this guy is a downhill and enduro world champ.
Great tips! Thanks
nice .... I will like it .you are a good mountain biker
gorgeous renthal stem and bars there.... yum yum.
very good! few videos teach how to do it. and you did it...... thanks... please..more videos.!!
I'm not sure what the science behind it is, but I used to have that problem a few years ago when I started out. The trick is to ride the jump, and not let it ride you. If you just ride over the jump normally, it will buck you forward and off the pedals. What you need to do is aggressively "pump" the takeoff (use your suspension to spring you off the ramp), and since it's you who is getting yourself into the air instead of the ramp you will stick to your bike like you would in a bunnyhop.
Are there better jumping tutorials out there? I've been looking around and this is actually the best one I've found. Agree about the whips though, not needed, but they're pretty sick. Fabien is a fucking badass.
He means like right as your about to go off the jump... to ''apply pressure'' or hop on the take off like you said. Apply pressure with the front arms for front suspension and your legs for the rear suspension.
BARel is legend!!! Good ride!!
as fabien said, one has to duck a bit and pump before the takeoff by applying the rapid leg force on the suspension and then let it go just before letting oneself in the air. this adds height and ramps up the bike velocity on the obstacle (applying force to the ground always does so)
very usefull video.
I had that too. I bought so better metal pedals and learn how to bunny hop and it helped for me ;) I hope help you
super bueno el video
I've found that keeping your toes down over the front of the pedal prevents this issue. If this doesn't help then try keeping a small amount of pressure on the pedals without forcing the bike down.
Another simple thing to remember when jumping or doing doubles is "Ride the rainbow" or the arch. Your pretty sure to land perfect everytime :) You're welcome.

If you land on flat not a slope should you push your bars forward ?

It'll probably go forward anyways. Just counter balance your weight.
dude i used all his instructions and broke my right elbow and inured my other arm. i was coming off a 6 foot jump. i thought it was a good place to start i ended up ijnuring both my arms i was relaxed and pushing on th handle bars upon landing made it worse thanks fabien i may need sergury.
well i'm im 5'6 200 lbs, do i need to go faster than normal? I can't seem to clear gap jumps, etc. thanks!
Where is this? This looks like a perfect spot for jumping - and it's all natural.
great commentary
those trails
awesome
Any tutorial delivered in a french accent is hilarious. "Jeuhrmp".
Hi Nice video. Im trying to learn how to jump. I've had a few attempts however I noticed that my feet seem to hover over the pedals and I land out of control. Kinda like the bike is landing faster than my body. Any advice?
Thats a sweet bike holy shit
and how to jump without fabien barel?
@tobiasj3122
8 жыл бұрын
Easier! 80 kg less on the bike.
Narly!!! :) thank you
if you push forward with the bars a little, and scoop the bike forward and also lift slightly with your feet, the bike should not fall under you... or so I think, still working it out myself ;) a bit like the ending of a bunny hop but just using speed and the transition to get airborne instead of body tension and massive weight shift.
Me gusta su acento.
how to jömp ahahaha great accent... loved the video dude
0:24 "Jumping is something everyone likes to do" ^^
Can someone please give me some bike advice? I currently ride a GIANT 29" (I'm a novice). It was around the $700 price range. I find it really hard to navigate around tight and narrow corners. (I've been doing it for around a year now) I really want to upgrade to maybe a 26" that can also handle jumps. My giant would break if I jumped it. Would this be a good move to make? P.S I'm 6 foot 3.
Could these jumps be done with a downhill bike
What kind of shoe you use? Does it "hook" in the pedal?
i don`t know man i can bunny hop pretty high since i rode street for a few years, but now i`m went dirt jumping and it is NOTHING like it.If you bunny hop on the kicker you lose control and fall everytime or go into a backflip(i can`t backflip). So i got scared and now i`m only lifting the rear wheel up and i`m nosing in everytime.Tips?
How to wheelie and table top?
Would an Vitus Bikes Blitz 2 work for this?
dude, I love your accent. where are you from? thanks for the great video.

I wonder if he would do this stuff if in clips?
Would a 29er jump good at all? just a question
yes
Do you use clipless shoes?
where is this??? please
first time i did a jump i went 10 centimeers up in the air. second about the same. third i went too hard on the jump and with my crap bike i crashed and now i don't know who's worsee, me or the bike. before that i would just brake before the jump because i'd shit myself everytime i see one, but now i am a bit better
haha good one! true
i can't quite manage how to 'squash' the jump, looking at what he's doing i either jump it and gain too much height to maintain my speed or roll nose dive, can anyone got any tips?
Hey man i`m getting more confident but i`m missing something.Would it be too much to ask i filmed myself at the dirts and maybe sent you a link to the video so you can watch it and give me some tips based on what i`m doing. That is if you have the time and are willing. Thanks!
and how do i jump without fabian barel?
Front wheel? I've been trying to put my back wheel down first. When I rode motorcycles that is what I learned. So get it level then hit with front wheel first. What keeps you from face planting? Going too slow?
@MultiAlxndr
9 жыл бұрын
u aren't trying to nose dive to flat, you are trying to get the bike on an angle similar to the landing so that your wheels roll smoothly down the contour of the transition as you land, as opposed to landing back heavy and the front flopping down. If you are hucking to flat you will then try to land more even or often rearward to take the impact with your legs

where is that
Fabien!! Could you tell me where this place is? Sainte Victoire or la sainte Beaume ?

probably somewhere near Sospel where he lives i believe in Provence, i reckon.
Can you jump without any sort of clips?
Those were the days...
@1:35 do I have to tail whip also ?
Geez..he makes it look so easy so effortable. Me, my eyes start to bulged and nutsack shrinks, bite my tongue and GO!
nah man...the best way to fix that is when you land.....hit your brakes quickly and let go.....it makes the bike rigid and your pedals aren't free to spin....it's a technique us old guys use for bad/weak knees...someone showed me this at Valmont in Boulder and it changed the way I ride......more aggressive
do what u would do for a american bunny hop push ur feet backwards into the pedal to keep a good firm stance on the bike
What kind of bike is this?
Where is this trail???!
that trail is so fucking sweet!!!
Oh my god , I've lost my Fabien Barel , how do I jump now ?
Hey man just let go don't tense up when it gets rough
he sounds kind of like sasha baron cohen in taladega knights
no you will run a very high chance of snapping the frame or destroying other parts that would be under stress during the landing.
So HOW DO YOU DUMP??
how your feet doesnt go of the pedal
Location?
does he use clickies?
what helmet is he wearing?
Urge Endur-O-Matic. He started this brand.
Can I land on flat ground with a hard tail without braking it or my self?

Sure you can i woudl say HT is even better since it's not taking that much power from you (suspension is absorbing it) but if you screw up it will be harder landing (FS will help this). But as you can see one of best jumpers outh there are people on BMX or Dirt Jumping bikes.

By the way fabien barel is the person that explanes how to jump (aka the guy who jumps)
Before I read your comment I actually thought that fbien barel is something on the bike...
look at how his feet are at 0:09 heels down a bit and push into the pedal :) but dont put heels down to far or your foot slips off

if the jump is manageble and you can do it but you are just scared, just go for it(aka don.t touch the brakes and get the right speed)
@Bigred10101

Personally, I find I just focus on all the smaller aspects of the jump. In my experience coaching people just telling them to go for it and don't worry about it doesn't help at all (it usually can do the opposite). If you can get a mate to jump the jump before and for them to watch you doing it. If it is a large gap jump and you haven't done a lot of jumping then I would recommend you start jumping on small table tops, a good place to start is at a bmx track, once you are comfy with doing small table tops, move up onto slightly larger ones. Once you are happy with those you can move onto gap jumps, make sure you can find one with a nice run in and a fairly large or stretched out landing and practice on it. If you go straight to a large gap jump you will either overshoot it or come up short, both are pretty crap!
@moonte7933

+Christopher Brown thet is the ideal thing to do...but i couldn.t find any tabletops and the jumps i had at hand were too big for my skill...so i just had to start small and go bigger and bigger...i personally built my own ramp which does not need a lot of speed or skill and that.s where i learned...also the chances of injury on that jump are minimal....for me it.s just perfecting skills on smaller stuff before going bigger

The Religion Killer good points mate, making a small kicker and jumping onto a large slope is also a good option
@moonte7933

+Christopher Brown the thing i saud in the beginning applied to the jump i made...i was scared as hell but having assesed all the risks i knew that i was safe and even if i had fallen i would have at most got full of dirt...really depends on what you have available....before that i had a small kicker with a fairly flat landing to help me get used to the takeoff and airtime
La même en français ce s'rait sympa...
i boiught a kawasaki men bike from walmart think i could ride like that someday it has two shocks guy that worked there said it could handle big jumps

Try squezing your bike with your legs. If you have a mountain bike it is easy just pinch the seat with your legs. Sit a little farther back on your bike it sounds like your landing nose first.
1h ago i jumped, got off my pedals and saddle, luckily landed back on it because i was going 30khp. lol it was funny i laughed my ass off. so can anybody explain me how i can stay on my peddals on terrain full of stones and during jumps? id apreciate it. i hope ill be good one day :/

drop your heels low so that they can't skid out of place. rubber soles on shoes like fivetens helps a lot combined with spiked flat pedals. or just get spds
