how to jump with fabien barel

Спорт

jumping is not a technic that is crucial to all MTN riding. But once you picked it up, you will be able to find a different flow to the trail and play even more with the terrain. As most of the technic, you vision will be to pick a nice landing and accelerate the bike.

    Great vid!! So many of us have jumped for years and just don't think about it but after a big stack we need to go back to basics and have clear instructions.. I'm 2months into a 6month recover after a 15m jump gone wrong.. just starting on some 2-3m doubles again to build my confidence back up plus looking at some great tutorials! Big stacks are a humbling experience and it's great to have people dedicating time and effort to show us what to remember in the air. Thanks!!

    Thanks Fabien. These vids are really well put together and the techniques are clearly explained. I have been watching them for the last 6 months while working on the techniques and it has brought my riding to a whole new level. Thank you sir!!

    I had a go with this on the trail today, seems to make a big difference and make for a safer jump (less feet coming off pedals in air) - thanks for the video.

    Re-watching this series after so many years, I realize that Fabien was not talking to beginners. His demos and tips will turn medium/advanced riders into pros. Just look how technical the terrain is. Loose surface. Tight corner. Angled landing. Broken lips on the takeoff. F...ing next level stuff.

    ive had the same experience, best trick i found is to either pinch your seat with your knees/calves, or pinch the cranks with the inside of your feet. or what i did is i went and bought bmx shoes, and mountain bike clip-less pedals clipless allow your feet to still be connected to the pedal in the air, but yet at the same time allow you to quickly remove your shoe from the pedal in the invent that you might have to jump off. theres no clipping in so you pretty much cant stay glued to bike

    I'm not sure what the science behind it is, but I used to have that problem a few years ago when I started out. The trick is to ride the jump, and not let it ride you. If you just ride over the jump normally, it will buck you forward and off the pedals. What you need to do is aggressively "pump" the takeoff (use your suspension to spring you off the ramp), and since it's you who is getting yourself into the air instead of the ramp you will stick to your bike like you would in a bunnyhop.

    Are there better jumping tutorials out there? I've been looking around and this is actually the best one I've found. Agree about the whips though, not needed, but they're pretty sick. Fabien is a fucking badass.

  • @ninesofine

    He means like right as your about to go off the jump... to ''apply pressure'' or hop on the take off like you said. Apply pressure with the front arms for front suspension and your legs for the rear suspension.

    as fabien said, one has to duck a bit and pump before the takeoff by applying the rapid leg force on the suspension and then let it go just before letting oneself in the air. this adds height and ramps up the bike velocity on the obstacle (applying force to the ground always does so)

    I've found that keeping your toes down over the front of the pedal prevents this issue. If this doesn't help then try keeping a small amount of pressure on the pedals without forcing the bike down.

    if you push forward with the bars a little, and scoop the bike forward and also lift slightly with your feet, the bike should not fall under you... or so I think, still working it out myself ;) a bit like the ending of a bunny hop but just using speed and the transition to get airborne instead of body tension and massive weight shift.

    Can someone please give me some bike advice? I currently ride a GIANT 29" (I'm a novice). It was around the $700 price range. I find it really hard to navigate around tight and narrow corners. (I've been doing it for around a year now) I really want to upgrade to maybe a 26" that can also handle jumps. My giant would break if I jumped it. Would this be a good move to make? P.S I'm 6 foot 3.

    Front wheel? I've been trying to put my back wheel down first. When I rode motorcycles that is what I learned. So get it level then hit with front wheel first. What keeps you from face planting? Going too slow?

  • @MultiAlxndr

    @MultiAlxndr

    9 жыл бұрын

    u aren't trying to nose dive to flat, you are trying to get the bike on an angle similar to the landing so that your wheels roll smoothly down the contour of the transition as you land, as opposed to landing back heavy and the front flopping down. If you are hucking to flat you will then try to land more even or often rearward to take the impact with your legs

    Personally, I find I just focus on all the smaller aspects of the jump. In my experience coaching people just telling them to go for it and don't worry about it doesn't help at all (it usually can do the opposite). If you can get a mate to jump the jump before and for them to watch you doing it. If it is a large gap jump and you haven't done a lot of jumping then I would recommend you start jumping on small table tops, a good place to start is at a bmx track, once you are comfy with doing small table tops, move up onto slightly larger ones. Once you are happy with those you can move onto gap jumps, make sure you can find one with a nice run in and a fairly large or stretched out landing and practice on it. If you go straight to a large gap jump you will either overshoot it or come up short, both are pretty crap!

  • @moonte7933

    @moonte7933

    +Christopher Brown thet is the ideal thing to do...but i couldn.t find any tabletops and the jumps i had at hand were too big for my skill...so i just had to start small and go bigger and bigger...i personally built my own ramp which does not need a lot of speed or skill and that.s where i learned...also the chances of injury on that jump are minimal....for me it.s just perfecting skills on smaller stuff before going bigger
