HOW TO: Jeep Grand Cherokee OME 2" HD Lift Kit Install (2005-2010 WK)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

It's rewarding to do work on your own Jeep Grand Cherokee WK and installing an OME 2" HD Lift Kit & JBA Upper A-Arm can be one of the most rewarding things you can do. I hope my comprehensive DIY instructions can give you the confidence needed to install your own lift kit.
I suggest reading below and watching this video at least once before you actually start changing your suspension.

My WK with the 2" OME lift MD - plus a bit extra is my trusty XJ replacement and I've had 3 of those in the past. After 16 years my WK is my longest ever owned vehicle I've driven on a daily basis.

I found that Rock Road Outfitters will pre-assemble OME springs and struts with new Jeep parts for $214 bucks for both sides. It will save you a little time but get you new parts instead of using old parts again. I just bought a WK and looking for a lift, this video is one of the better I have seen for this lift kit. Thank you for putting this out there.

The OME info here is great, as a Jeep owner for the last 23 years, I can appreciate the custom work that can be done to WK and WH Jeeps. I've spent £10k on mine in the last few years. WK/WH are very cheap to buy in the UK and maintain if you pick the right ones that have not been abused too much. I run a WK 5.7 HEMI on LPG which gives me the same running costs as a small car. I have the OME MD on mine.

Well done video, my only advice is to leave the castle nut on the ball joint and hit upwards on the control arm instead of the ball joint to separatethem. This will keep you from possibly hurting the balljoint in the hammer process (trust me I've done it, yours luckily was easy) and it will allow you to use a normal hammer if you dont have a rubber or a rubber one isnt strong enough.

I just did my OME lift this weekend and your video really helped! Thanks for putting it up. As an aside for anyone doing this lift, even if you aren’t replacing the upper control arms, removing them really helps get the new strut towers back in and isn’t too hard. Also the lower clevis bolt is super hard to get out, don’t waste your time with it. Lastly, I did not remove my brake calipers but I did unfasten the brake line from the wheel well to give more slack.

I know that this is a little late to the game, but I found out the hard way that on the rear shocks, the bottom nut is *WELDED* to the mount and is *NOT* removed!!! I removed mine. Had to have a shop re-weld it back in place.

Great video. Only thing is you should try to never tighten shock or stabilizer links or most any suspension bushing until the weight of the vehicle is either on the ground, or the axle is on a jack stand loaded (Reason is) you can tear or twist the bushing once its loaded under weight. Also wire brushing bolts can remove the protective factory coating some blaster is good enough or replace the bolt And I would love to see your rig with all the work done. I will be buying the OME kit and will make sure you get credit for it. Nice job

Wow. Great job w/ instructions. We live right in the roxbury neighborhood. My son just bought this truck today but it needs all 4 shocks and struts replaced. The way you showed this, we could actually try to take on the rear job but would go no where near that front. Requires some experience I think. Any recommendations for the install in this area? Randolph, Denville, Roxb... etc. Looks like the job is over $1K in parts alone so think we'll have to stick w/ stock replacement if that's cheaper w/o the lift... ;o(

Catbus Are you talking the Upper A-Arm? You do need to remove it in order to clear the strut assembly for removal and reinstallation.

I noticed on your back wheels that you have pretty thick wheel spacers and that could be one of your rubbing problems its not stock or factory set up I own a Stock WJ V8 and my new 245/70R17's KO2's don't rub but I would love to put a 4in lift short or long arm but since its Quadra drive I would have to replace the front drive shaft possibly even if I went with a .budget 2" or 2 1/2', I want height was the ol saying say's " It's a Jeep Thang" LOL 🤭

I did a 2 in rough country lift but didn't change out the upper control arms. I was wondering if not changing them could be the cause of my positive camber problem.

Great job! Jeep looks awesome. Do you have any rubbing when flexing? Looking into getting this exact lift but want to make sure it won't rub with flexing like I'm currently having. Thanks.
