HOW TO INSTALL VINYL SIDING
This is a simple video of how to install vinyl siding. I know some steps are not exactly perfect but this is what I did to complete the siding on my garage and it's still in good shape.
Here are some corrections that should have been done for longevity of the siding installation.
Overlaps on the seams are a little to tight. There should be about 1 inch between the top lock separation. The siding usually will expand almost a 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch on a full panel.
I hope this video is helpful for you and thank you so much for watching.!

Thanks for the simple and QUICK video. Showed the basics. Exactly what most people need.
Thank you for explaining how to overlap the vinyl correctly. Having not done this before, it never would have occurred to me that the seams aren't visible when viewed from one angle versus another.
Picked the shortest video and believe it was exactly what I needed thank you

Excellent, thank you. I'm fixing a hole where the AC used to be and couldn't quite figure out what I was doing wrong. This cleared things up.
Thanks for keeping it simple! Tackling my project this weekend thanks to you!
Hey man thanks for passing the knowledge along to all of us out here. I didn’t have KZread I prob would have had a hard time being a small contractor.
THANK YOU! This is exactly the tutorial I needed. Simple, detailed, and to the point!
Greet’ns from The South of Michigan! Thank You so much for putting together such a simple, yet thorough video. It appears as though you highlighted the critical stuff and omitted a lot of filler! A lot of folks here in YT Land like to put out long vids in hopes of scoring higher view durations in their analytics. Some of us are just meat and potatoes viewers. Just give us the good stuff... And you did! Bless’ns to ya, Tedd
Man you gotta be kiddin me! You are a Master at this. THANK YOU SIR!
Good video with fantastic step by step instructional points. I was actually hoping to learn some of your tricks on how to do vinyl siding by yourself on a ladder, 2 story house.
Thanks for the video!! I’m repairing storm damage, replacing a portion of one wall. I do not need all the nitty-gritty, start to finish. Just wanted to supplement what i “know” by eyeballing the existing, undamaged portion. This was perfect; ya gave me just the confidence i needed to get TO IT! 👷🏻♀️👍

Your gaps between the lips leave atleast 1 inch for expansion cause when the heat hits the siding it’s gonna expand

Nice work ,good instructions.
Good video. I like your concise but laid back approach. I do wish, however, that you had included a little more info. on the starter strip, specifically, how to install it correctly. I'm getting ready to start my first project and I understand it's important to get it level from the beginning and keep it level. Thank you.

I appreciate the feedback! As long as the starter strip is level you will be good, keeping in mind you can make small adjustments all the way up the wall if you see something out of line.
Love the video easy for me too learn the method.

What a great video! Thank you so much for showing how it's done. Could you show how to prepare for siding around a window and how you finish off at the top? I have a tool shed with one window in the center, with equal distance from the door and the end of the shed.

Nice! And yes, you have to kind of work around it like a puzzle and cut all the pieces to fit. It's best to use some window trim as well.
You're awesome bruh.. ty..

How do you (permanently) remove the bottom lap of siding? I plan on adding a 'water barrier' (foundation covering) up to the bottom of the second lap of siding. Can a starter strip be added after the fact?
Thank you
Good video
Is there a way to replace the corner piece? Mine has gotten damaged from a weedeater.
What size roofing nails you recommend? 1"?
Hey nice video, one question, I am planning to use VOX siding and this manufacturer recommends to have a ventilation gap behind the pvc, by using some vertical wood pieces. How come you naild the pvc directly over the membrane? Thx

I think it might have something to do with the weather difference. In Nova Scotia it only gets super hot in the months of July and August the rest of the year it can be pretty brisk. If you live in a hot area applying siding might be different.
What size nails, about 5 pieces of siding flew off and I think I could put them back by myself especially with this video - thank you
@AverageGuyDIY

It's been so long since I did it but if you go to any hardware store just ask for shingle nails and they will provide you with the available sizes.
Thanks 🙏🏿
Any advice in replacing that corner piece? It's supposed to be done first you said, but for my repair the siding is already going to be on
@AverageGuyDIY
Жыл бұрын
Hmm...If the corner is damaged, it's really tough. you can probably rig up a fix of some sort. I don't mind offering some free advice. Send me a picture to my email at agdiy2021@gmail.com and I'll take a look at it.
Do you alternate or scatter the joints so all are not at the same place up the entire wall? How do you do that? Like wood flooring of a 3 board spacing pattern?
@AverageGuyDIY
4 ай бұрын
Yes that's the idea. It will happen automatically, just take full pieces of siding and mount them to the wall until the last one. The last one will most likely be too long so you will need to cut it. Use the cut piece to continue the wall by taking it back to the original starting place (above the fist piece you placed). This will create the pattern.
thanks for the great video. I'm going to be siding a steel shipping container. how can I attach the siding since I can't nail it? ty for any assistance you can give.
@AverageGuyDIY

That sounds like fun. I'm not sure what you would use for that. I didn't think shipping containers need siding? are you just doing it for "looks"?
@ezyjack826

@@AverageGuyDIY yes, for looks and to keep the neighbors from complaining. also plan to put a low pitched roof to protect the top and add a lean-to so I can park my tractor under it. after some research I think I'll run a top rail and bottom rail between the corner blocks. then I can nail my studs to that. unless I get a better idea. thanks again. 🙂

Hi, I’m currently in the market to buy a home. Found one that has vinyl siding. I had never come across a finish like this. Is it possible to remove and resurface the area with something else? Or do I have to keep it?
@AverageGuyDIY
Жыл бұрын
Yes vinyl siding is easy to take down. You can always refinish it with something else.
Nice, simple, no background music and he even used a level...hahahaha!!!
This looks like a cool way have to try sometime have you ever tried lining your over laps stair steps ?

When I did this siding a few years ago I kinda had to learn on the fly. You should have the siding overlapping correctly. See the comments I left in the video description, with that being said it's still holding up just fine.

@@AverageGuyDIY I think it looks great and in the end that’s all that actually matters as long as she still holding
thanks
i'm going over a painted shed, do i need the backing paper? also, why didn't you show how to finish at the top?
@AverageGuyDIY
Жыл бұрын
It's like a puzzle as you go up to the top you must cut the pieces to shape. Same with around the windows and any other protruding objects. And actually I had a shed and we didn't use any Tyvek wrap at all. I just nailed the siding right to it. Honestly it just really depends on how you want to do it. Tyvek wrap however is always best for new construction to maintain the longevity of the structure.
Where I can buy the product
Good basic video but what about the last row, and around windows. Most walls aren't without cuts
@AverageGuyDIY

There is proper trim you have to purchase that goes around the windows and the doors. The Vinyl will slide into the inserts just like doing a corner.
how did you learn or get into learning how to install vinyl siding ? I am looking to do my own

Just learned it from KZread. Make sure to read the updated description notes for the corrections in this video. :)
Hello. I have a question. Why my just installed siding has this bubbles ?
@AverageGuyDIY
10 ай бұрын
The only time I've heard of that is when the siding was nailed to firm to the structure. You must leave room when nailing so that the siding has room to expand and contract because of heating and cooling.
