The 2009-2017 Aprilia RSV4 and 2011-2017 Aprilia Tuono V4 motors are well known for charging system issues, specifically stator and voltage regulator failures. The magnets on the original flywheel used on these models were extremely strong, causing high current in the stator windings, which generated excessive heat and led to early failures. The high output generated from the stator was also very difficult for the voltage regulator rectifier to reliably dissipate, causing them to run very hot and fail often.
On all years of the Tuono from 2011-2017, and on 2009-2017 RSV 4 models (with engine numbers ending in 3413 and above), Aprilia solved this problem with a recall, and replaced the flywheels with a new unit from Kokusan. This flywheel had lower-strength magnets that corrected the stator output to more reasonable levels, resulting in a cooler-running stator and regulator and enhanced reliability. This stator/flywheel set from Aprilia is OEM Part Number: 2D000049. Unfortunately it is VERY expensive to purchase direct from Aprilia.
RM Stator comes to the rescue with an OEM quality Kokusan flywheel and stator combination at a great price with an unbeatable warranty and customer service. We also have kits available with the stator cover gasket, OEM-style, and upgraded MOSFET voltage regulator rectifier.
Follow along with Evan, our Electrical Engineer, as he shows you how to install the stator, flywheel, and regulator on a beautiful Aprilia RSV4 in the shop!
Note: You do NEED the correct flywheel puller tool to remove the flywheel from this motor. RM Stator will have this available soon!

    Would have liked to have seen a torque wrench used on that flywheel bolt, last thing you want is a sheared bolt in a crankshaft.

    the screws holding down the stator usually have locktite on it, very easy to strip it and turn a 2 hour job into multiday day frustration

    Firstly thank you so much for your time for this clear instructions! my 17 rsv4rr is charging at idle around 13.4 and around 13.6 rpm at around 4-5000. Im considering to replace the stator coil and the rectifier but can i just leave my existing flywheel alone? dont want to trouble removing it thank you

    Hi, is see an option with voltage regulator and Mosfet regulator, what is the difference and which one to pick for my RSV4R 1000 2013 model, with engine num > 4000. I live in a tropical climate so will that have any impact on my choice?

    respect Maybe you can help me, I have a 2012 rv4 tuono and I have a problem. My second stator burned out in 5000 kilometers. I also changed the rotor and now I'm afraid that it won't burn out, I think it's a factory error, now I've decided to change the regulator too, so let's see. Do you have any information about what's going on, because I don't trust that motorcycle anymore, it left me in the middle of nowhere twice already. Thank you

    I have the exact bike and I was wondering when would you ever need to replace the flywheel? Is it when the flywheel is pitted?

  • @Rmstatorinc

    @Rmstatorinc

    The original flywheel has extremely strong magnets. It is usually replaced with the later model part to lower the magnet strength and increase stator life. They are rarely physically damaged on these bikes.

    I have a 2018 Tuono Factory with an oil leak out from my stator wire. Common problem apparently. All up for flywheel, new stator, a few other small parts and labour they want $1400.. (Australia). And it’s a 3 month wait for the stator to come in 💀

    sorry,but that is a little bit on the ridiculous side....you already unbolted the flywheel,showing only how to install the FW puller...would have liked to see the whole removal operation ...then,you use a impact to tighten the bolt?????? you realize that someone is going to shear this off for sure right? this should be torqued to factory specs,nothing else. then you install the new stator into a oily case cover?? you don't even try to remove the oil film which covers the whole interior of the cover? LOL...wheeew!!!

    @@Rmstatorinc absolutely not.my point is that,for the people who aren't mechanically inclined,it would have been handy for them to see what to do when,as example,the cover,or the nuts,resist at the moment you pull back to either get the wheel off,or if ever the nuts stick because too much thread lock or else...when you make a tutorial video,you show ALL of what has to be done in details ,and all the problems you may encounter.

    I am Evan from the video, and most definitely did not remove one of our stators from the bike. Based on the colored powdercoating on the stator it was likely an aftermarket stator from another brand, but it was not ours. Please don't imply we are dishonest in our videos, we absolutely are not.

    How do I get the OEM flywheel off? I don’t have the mounting tool. Is there another way that a home garage mechanic can use.
