How to install RCV Axles in Jeep Wrangler JL

Beefing up my front end a little more with a one piece solid axle from RCV Performance. Honestly, the bell cap on the passenger side was the hardest part of this install. But, with a dead blow hammer and patience, it's worth the trouble. Link to what I bought below.

    Great instructions, thank you. I hadn't worked on a jeep since i sold my tj in 2012. Interesting that the gear oil reaches all the way to the FAD area. Thanks for explaining, very easy to follow.

    LOL! The extra grease for future servicing. Get you a grease gun specifically for your RCV's. That's what I did! Thanks for watching, and the comment!

    Those RCVs look great! I switched to one piece shaft also in my YJ, the vacuum setup on the CAD was an issue whenever a leak showed up so like you it was just easier to eliminate it. Great video and keep it up!!

    Yes, ma'am. There are a TON of differences between a TJ and a JL. My wife has an '01 TJ. We spent all last summer building it after having it for 4 yrs. Sorry for the late response. Glad you liked the vid. Thanks for watching and the comment! 🤘🏻

    I am surprised that you didn't install locking hubs at the same time as this upgrade. I guess the price could be a factor but it also seems that locking hubs would save you a lot on on road use.

    That's something I wish came from the factory, LOL! That said, I'm not sure there is even a conversion for the new JL axles. (IF) I ever go to Tons, locking hubs will definitely happen.👍🏻

    Just got the RCV one piece kit installed. I’m having a lot of driveline vibrations now. Any ideas why?

  • @ShockWaveOffroad

    @ShockWaveOffroad

    2 жыл бұрын

    Sorry to hear this. That said, what you're asking is a bit of a loaded question. "Driveline vibrations" could be anything from the axle shafts, to the drive shafts, to bent wheels, unbalanced tires, worn control arm and/or track bar bushings, etc. I'm going to ASSUME you didn't have this issue prior to installing the RCV's. SO, (I) would double check everything I did and make sure everything was installed correctly and torqued to spec. If you had someone else install them, I would contact them and have them troubleshoot the issue. Interested in what you find. Keep me posted.

    Great video. I have a Gladiator I'm getting ready to do 5.13s on and I'm considering replacing the front axle shafts to eliminate the FAD. If you have a Tazer JL. You can actually turn off the FAD system, obviously not a requirement since the coupler is being removed but worth mentioning. Quick question...I haven't looked to see if you did already but if essentially making the front axle fulltime, in terms of it spinning and spinning the driveshaft, do you recommend replacing the factory driveshaft at the same time?

  • @ShockWaveOffroad

    @ShockWaveOffroad

    3 жыл бұрын

    Nah, changing the driveshaft is not a necessity just because the diff is now turning with regular driving. I will be changing driveshafts in the future, but for added strength in the drivetrain. The stock driveshaft, like stock axles are "adequate", but under articulation, heavy tires, and skinny pedal LOL, they're not ideal. One guy I know has broken 2 front driveshafts.🤣🤣 I have the ability to turn the fad off with the Superchips Flashcal, but I'm going to leave it as is for now, until I do the full fad delete. Glad you liked the vid, and thanks for the comment!!👍🏻👊🏻🤘🏻

    Where did you get the torque specs for all the bolts?

  • @ShockWaveOffroad

    @ShockWaveOffroad

    3 жыл бұрын

    The torque specs can be found easily through a Google search. Since all of the bolts in this modification had relatively low torque rates, I just used my calibrated elbow😉. The only spec I was really concerned with was the axle nut, which is 100 lb ft. Thanks for the question!
