Dirt Daily. Adding RCV Axles to a Jeep JL Wrangler

My 2018 Jeep JL Wrangler, affectionately known as NewbSock is getting some front axle shaft upgrades from RCV. These replace the u-joint style axles with a constant velocity or CV joint and RCV claims these axles are strong enough for up to 43 inch tall tires!
If you're looking to upgrade your axleshafts for more off road abuse visit www.rcvperform...

I'm sure the rules state that you can't wear the orange hat until the orange boot has been installed.

I've always loved what you guys do. I'd love to have the job of just building whatever I want. I realize there would be a lot of anxiety that comes with deadlines, but you and Dave always made it look easy.

Thanks for answering the question of "Are RCV axels really worth it?". If you say they're good, that's a solid yes for me!

If you're thinking of using Teraflex BJ. The Teraflex ball joints will not work with the RCV or 1410 Ujoint axles. The Zero fitting are way to tall.

You need to keep an eye on the boots. They may split with age. In 12 years I've only had to replace them once.

One of the worst things I've ever done in life was getting addicted to Jeeps. The addiction started off innocently enough with GI Joes in the mid 80's and the a Jeep remote control in the late 80's. However in the mid 90's I was introduced to a dealer while stationed in San Diego. I've been broke ever since.

They finally made that boot tool? Several years ago I was at Goatbuilt and they built a very similar tool for boot installation. Those boots are a pain in the a$$.

Hi Fred. Thanks for your video. I installed the same RCV's on my JL Rubicon. I noticed after a couple months (although may have been there since the beginning) that the RCVs will click-click during slow turns, or pulling into a parking space. Many say that the clicking (presumably the balls moving around in their cage) is one of the traits of RCVs. I grease them regularly (at every oil change), and other than that, they've been running great. Any insight into their click? Thanks

Man so good to see you Fred. I (being a caveman) did not know you had a channel. Was waiting for the next season of DED and when looking found your channel. Question: does the boot just snap into place? I thought there would be a clamp like a hose clamp or something to hold it onto the bell? sorry if i just missed it. Merry Christmas

FRED - question, sir. Would you put a small clamp on that boot to assure it does not move just like on a passenger car cv boot?

I am due for u joints on my one ton, Dana 60, this looks like a good idea, but how many times have you seen leaky cv boots? That can be messy. Has anyone done this to a drive line yet?

The biggest reasons I have never wanted RCV's is because of the grease mess/ leaking boots. Can anyone comment more real world experience with these axles in a solid axle application? Are they a huge headache of a mess like the internet says? I had this same axle in my last JL and the 1410 full circle clip u joints never gave me any issues for about 5 years.

Fred what’s your opinion on fixing leaking rear axle seals on 03 rubicon? Seems to be a common thing? I’ve replaced them once already and they’re leaking again. Only 30,000 miles on Jeep. New better axles? It’s annoying as shit. Anyone else have opinion?
