stock calipers? leaking break fluid? you need to check for the signs of a bad caliper before it's too late. leaks is one of the more common signs of a failing caliper. in this video, i change all 4 stock calipers to oem remanufactured calipers (budget) on my 1991 Mazda Miata. i show you how to diagnostic a bad caliper, how to paint calipers, and how to uninstall and reinstall new calipers. front and rear. since we had the brand new calipers off the car, i went ahead and painted them for the cheap too. and the end result was... beautiful.

Question: When you separated the caliper from the caliper bracket, the slider pin holes didn’t have tiny rubber sleeves within them? Is this normal and did you put anything inside there, (such as a small rubber sleeve)? I took apart an ole 1995 NA 1.8L and the slider pin holes on the “caliper bracket” had small rubber sleeves “inside” them. Putting an emphasis on “inside” the slider pin “hole” because I’m already aware of the “outer” rubber boots that cover the slider pins. Any help because I can’t find anyone that even sells what I found inside there. Thanks in advance! Cheers 🍻 P.s. If the brake caliper is mounted, then I am only speaking about the upper caliper bracket hole, (17mm). Thanks.

so i kinda can picture what you’re talking about. i just googled “miata caliper slider pin” and amazon sells a miata brake parts kit. comes with the outer rubber boots and two tiny slider pins sleeves. i remember i bought the same kit at o’rielys and they didn’t come with thought tiny sleeves. ... so maybe that will help you. it’s only about $10-15. the brand is “carlson”. check it out and see if that’s what your talking about. but i also don’t think it’s a big issue not to have them. as long as they are properly greased, i think you should be good with just the outer boots in place.

Jake Cande - Thank you brother. I did a little digging and found out I have a rare R-Line model from 1995...might be causing the rarity issue. I’ll definitely look into the info you dug up, I’ll let you know what I find. 👊🤓

Do i need to bleed the brakes from all sides if I just changed one caliper?

yes. you should. you just let air into the entire brake system. bleeding the brakes is a process from each caliper. even if you replacement one, you should bleed the whole brake system properly.
