Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This is a quick and easy way to install an air switch for you kitchen sink disposal.
I couldn't find the exact one I used on amazon, but the one in the link below should do the trick just fine. It also comes with more color options for the button:

Are you kidding me? What a remarkable alternative to running switches and wires through the hard to reach back panel of the kitchen sink. Thank you Berlin Builds!

First off Thank you. As a handyman i do all sorts of things including garbage disposals. I was asked about this switch yesterday and I was unsure about what customer said she has for parts. Now after watching your video i am for sure what she has. Thanks again.

Pretty good explained..
Good clean informative Video As others have commented the seal goes on top of the counter to keep the water from entering the cabinet below Also the disposal could turn on when you first plug the power into the unit if the cycle of the unit is on so just be aware

Many thanks. 68 year old woman here and the button was stuck in drepressed position. I watched this vid and reset the plug and made sure the hose was in place and the bottom popped back up (was I just lucky?) anyway. Saved me a call to handy man

Thanks for the instruction. Very helpful. Just one quick question, do we require any kind of glue to seal the switch and countertop to avoid moisture going down the cabinet?
@berlinbuilds
Жыл бұрын
A lot of them come with a little tubber seal that can go under the button flange to help keep water out.
Hey! Great video! Question though, what do you do with the switch that the garbage disposal is already wired to? Thanks so much for sharing!!
@berlinbuilds
2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! For the switch the easiest option is to just leave it in the on position. You can also change the wiring with a splice kit in order to get rid of the switch and be able to patch it with sheetrock (depending on the area you are in if the building codes will let you cover splices. I hope that helps!

If you have a wired switch to the under sink outlet you don't need to install anything else. Just install disposal, plug it in and use the wall switch already available. This option is for new installation that has no wall switch installed.
I found one of these switches by Emmerson Electric. The customer was having a problem with the switch so I looked on Emmerson's website and found there is a recall on these switches. Water can get into the tube and over heat the switch. After contacting them they graciously provided a replacement as there is a recall on specific models.

Good to know. Thanks for the info!
Is the 1 3/8" for the hole standard or do these come in other sizes as well that might require a different size hole?
@berlinbuilds
3 жыл бұрын
1 3/8” is pretty standard size for these. It’s always good to double check though on the specifications of the switch that you are buying to make sure it doesn’t require a different size hole 👍
Very well done. You should be on HGTV.

Thanks! Maybe one day me and Chip will hang out!
In looking at the switch and plug side, I see threads where the air tube connects. Is there not some type of plastic nut that goes on each end to ensure the tube stays in place?
Hi, I have a similar setup. Can I plug in a dishwasher on the other outlet?
@berlinbuilds

Yep! It works great to do it that way!
I think the seal was meant to go above the counter, bit below. it's a seal to keep out moisture.
@berlinbuilds

That would make sense. Thanks for noticing that!

When an air switch is installed, would you leave a switch on or off to operator a disposer? In other words, what do you with the current toggle switch? No need to do anything or leave it on?
@berlinbuilds
3 жыл бұрын
You should be able to leave the current switch in the “on” position. Whatever outlet the plug for the air switch goes into will need constant power 👍
I have to replace my air switch because it’s stuck “on”. Along with that my disposal won’t drain and there are no clogs. Can the switch cause the “won’t drain” issue? Thanks. Great video!
@berlinbuilds
Жыл бұрын
Thanks! The air switch wouldn’t cause any clogs or for things not to drain. Good luck! It’s a pain troubleshooting sometimes!
Is it pretty easy to remove the hose from the switch? I need to move my switch to a different hole. Do I just pull the hose off the switch, move the switch to the new hole, and then push the hose back onto the button? Is it that easy? Or removal is tricky?
@berlinbuilds
2 жыл бұрын
It’s pretty easy. Just twist as you pull it off.
Can you convert a hard wired disposal to air powered? If so, how?
@berlinbuilds
3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you could use the wire that is going into the disposal and put in an outlet. You could then wire a whip or plug from the disposal, which you could then plug into the air switch plug. Then you’d take the air switch plug and plug it into the outlet. As I read what I wrote it sounds confusing, but I’m not sure of a better way to explain it. Probably the best solution is to ask an electrician if he is able to help you get an outlet in your sink cabinet and a whip attached to your disposal.
My switch is on the wall, and my disposal is hardwired underneath. Looks like I would need to have an outlet installed underneath and a plug added to my disposal (which we already cut off to hardwire). What would we do with the wall switch? Thanks
@berlinbuilds
3 жыл бұрын
That’s kind of a tricky one. By code my understanding is you have to blank off that switch unless you are able to get rid of the wires that were there. Are you doing the electrical changes yourself or hiring that out?
@ShellieSager
3 жыл бұрын
@@berlinbuilds I literally just figured it out. Thanks!
If you don’t want to drill a hole into the counter can you just leave the switch under the sink? And open the cabinet when you need to push ?
@berlinbuilds
Жыл бұрын
Yeah that would work in theory 👍
I need to change the color of the button AND ring. Can this be done without going under the sink?
@berlinbuilds
Жыл бұрын
Probably not. It’ll probably be easier to remove it and reinstall it after you swap the colors.
What brand is your air switch? Can you please post the link and how much you bought it!.
@berlinbuilds
Жыл бұрын
Hey! Sorry it’s been so long I don’t remember the brand on this one. I do have a link in the description for one similar that works well 👍
3:36 the seal needs to be on top so the water from the counter doesn't drip down. 4:50 plug the wall plug 180 degree of what you did and the air hose is too bent so leave it a bit longer

My wall switch is kind of far from my sink. I also keep my pressure cooker right there. So I am always having to reach really far and behind the pressure cooker. That is why I am looking into one. It looks really convenient right there at the edge of the sink.

Weird. Sounds like the hole is too big for the switch then (the switch rests on its flanges on top of the hole). Does it rest on top if you let position it carefully? An epoxy may work if so.
