Under Cabinet Lighting - EASY and AFFORDABLE!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I show you how I installed cabinet lighting using LED light strips. It was pretty easy to do and only requires a few tools. Using the soldeless connections makes it super easy for pretty much anyone to wire it up.

    Thanks for this vid man! You explained it so well and made it sort of fool proof. I’m going to be building and installing kitchen cupboards and didn’t know how to add the lights below. I actually thought they’d be the round lights so I literally thought I’d have to redesign the bottom of the top cupboards just to hide the round lights 😅 that would’ve been way too over complicated. With your advice I can add the lights to my quote and do it myself AND score some extra work AND save my client money👍🏾can’t wait to see your other vids. Keep it up man!

    @@DIYReid or Andy Espenan what was the other kind of wire that you used that went through the cabinets? Do u need anything else to hook it up to be able to jump it like 4 ft beside what you showed in the video? I know the solderless connections are great for small areas but I have 4-5ft sections in a few spots I need to run wire instead of lights. As long as I don't need to solder anything, I can figure it out!

    I also have lights on top of the cabinets, and did it with no outlet at all. I actually had to run an extension cord right along the seam of the cabinet where no one sees it all the way to the outlet behind the fridge. At the end of the cord I plugged a smart outlet and have them so they will automatically go on and off at certain times. They could also be turn on or off using Alexa. I really love the vibe it gives.

    would be in parallel. if in series, think old Christmas tree lights. if one light is out, they all are out.. In parallel, all lights between the plug and the last one are then just "tapped off" the power run. :)

  • @illestofdemall13

    @illestofdemall13

    It's parallel. They are made to be connected and wired in parallel. Series would mean connecting your positive to one end of the LED tape and connecting the negative to the other end. In a series circuit, if one bulb fails, it will make the whole section turn off since the positive and negative have both been broken by the failure of that bulb's filament.

    I appreciate your taking the time to make this video to share. It is just what I was looking for!! I nave to smh, though, because he spent all that time installing the lighting and making this video, but didn’t want to spend an extra 15-30 minutes maximum spraying the tops of the cabinets with 409 to wipe the dirt away. Men🙄 LOL. It’s literally that easy…spray with 409, wipe with paper towels to remove dirt, wipe again with clean damp rag to rinse cleaner residue away, then and dry towel. Poof! It’s done. Just did this in my son’s new kitchen and it smells so much better now that the years of built up grease the previous owner’s left behind is gone . He was so appreciative. Boys, while you’re already up there, take the extra bit of time to clean a bit. It’s worth it!! Your nose with thank you for it!! Written with love from mom’s everywhere❤️

Also I have the exact set up outlet behind fridge and on the other side outlet in cabinet for microwave so I can run two separate runs on either side of the kitchen and go above and below. Questions. Power cord to the first light strip and when do you use the long red wire? When you’re connecting one light to another cabinet? What are the connectors for? I will re watch. Also does this have an app to turn on and off since the power will be behind the fridge and behind a cabinet? Do they dim?

    I'm thinking of going this route with my under-the-cabinets lighting. I really like your implementation. I like the idea of having the smart way to control the lights as well as a physical button we can maybe mount someplace for the kids or guests who wouldn't have easy manual control of the lights. The Zigbee button says it requires a hub? I don't recall you explaining that bit. How do you link the button to control those smart plugs?

    Holy shit I have the same back splash and white cabinets the only thing I have different is the color granite counter tops haha . Your window fridge stove and microwave are the exact same layout as mine like exactly the same . I thought of doing this with hue lights and for the cabinets that are separate on the end of the window I’d just add the hue stand alone lamp although I already have hardwired lights under the cabinets so idk it’s a tuff decision. Great video though thanks .

    @@DIYReid You can also put an outlet inside the cabinet only about a foot above the existing backsplash outlet. It's more intrusive but can be easier than running power all the way to the top (sometimes). Then you can just run low voltage from inside the cabinet.

    Trust me, you don't need the RGBs. You already said, "white 90%." Every time I buy an appliance I think, "oh, nice option" and I NEVER USE IT! The dedicated white LEDs are a much better way to go, color wise, intensity wise, etc.

Now, I will go in the kitchen and she will be sitting at the breakfast bar drinking a glass of wine with the room lights out and the LEDs on the color of the day! Now I have to add more to the bottom. I have been trying some rechargeable ones, but the motion sensors are not working correctly, so a better solution is needed.
